BURLINGTON, Vt. - Vermont sophomore goalie Joe Fallon (Bemidji, Minn.) and Boston University junior goalie John Curry dueled each other to an even stalemate as the 15th-ranked Catamounts skated to a 1-1 tie with the fourth-ranked Terriers. Fallon turned away 25 shots including 15 in the final period and Curry countered with 19 stops in a game where each made several spectacular saves. The tie puts the Catamounts at 18-10-5 overall and 10-9-5 in Hockey East while BU is 19-9-3 and 15-7-2 in conference.

"You can't ask for a more complete hockey game of effort and execution than what we got out of our guys tonight and I'm sure Jack (Parker) is feeling the same way about his team," Vermont head coach Kevin Sneddon said. "This was a battle of two teams that left it all out on the ice. As a coach that's all you can ask for and sometimes its enough to win, sometimes its enough to tie and sometimes you lose those games. I'm just so proud of our guys. We left it all out there."

BU entered the game as one of the hottest teams in the country winning 12 of the last 13 games. Meanwhile, Vermont entered the weekend with the hope of keeping its home ice chances alive for the Hockey East postseason.

After an evenly played first period the Catamounts turned it up offensively in the second period. Freshman Corey Carlson (Two Harbors, Minn.) notched a power-play goal from the right circle on a wrist shot to give the Catamounts a 1-0 lead at 4:14 of the period. Senior assistant captain Brady Leisenring (Stowe, Vt.) prevented the puck from leaving the zone by poking a pass to Carlson who beat Curry top shelf. Junior Ryan Gunderson (Bensalem, Pa.) also assisted on the play.

The assist for Leisenring gave him 116 points in his career (46 goals, 70 assists) tying him with John LeClair '91 for the most points by a Vermont-born player in school history. It also put him a tie for 26th on the all-time scoring list.

The Catamounts had several chances to expand the lead late in the second period when the Terriers were whistled for a five-minute major and game misconduct for hitting from behind but Vermont was unable to score.

Then Vermont was called for a five-minute major and game misconduct for hitting from behind at the conclusion of the second period. The Catamounts were able to kill off the penalty at the start of the third period.

But the Terriers went on the power play with less than two minutes to go in the game and pulled Curry from net. During a 6-on-4 Dan Spang would tie the game for BU on shot from just inside the blue line with 27 seconds left to play. The Teirrers outshot Vermont 15-3 in the final period and forced overtime.

Both teams managed just one shot each in the extra session and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

For the fifth straight weekend the Catamounts played in an overtime game. Vermont is 3-0-5 in overtime this season. UVM wasoutshot for just the sixth time this season by a 26-21 count. Both teams went 1-for-5 on the power play.
