BOSTON, Mass. - Ray Ortiz scored to tie the game at 3-3 at the 10:36 mark in the third period, but Kenny Roche scored at 17:46 and BU got and empty netter as the Terriers prevailed, 5-3, on Friday at Matthews Arena. Yale Lewis had a goal and an assist and Joe Santilli also scored for the Huskies. Freshman goalie Jake Thaler made 39 saves in his first collegiate appearance.

Northeastern honored seniors Chuck Tomes, Brian Swiniarski and Steve Sanders before the game for Senior Night.

The Huskies got out to a 1-0 lead when Santilli scored at 10:19 in the first period. With BU's Peter MacArthur in the penalty box, Lewis and Steve Birnstill cycled the puck to Santilli, who shot it through traffic for the score to give NU the lead.

The Terriers came back before the period was over when Dan Spang took a cross-ice pass from Brad Zancanaro in BU's zone and Spang took the puck down the ice and beat Thaler to even it at 1-1 at 18:50 in the first period.

The Huskies came out firing in the second period and Lewis scored his fifth goal of the season at 2:19 to give the lead back to the Huskies. Dennis McCauley got the puck on a dump-in from Denis Chisholm and McCauley tried a wrap-around move that got blocked. Lewis punched the rebound through for the score and NU kept the 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

Spang and Brian Ewing scored at 7:12 and 8:28, respectively, in the third period to get BU a 3-2 lead, but the Huskies came back with Ortiz' goal on a power play at 10:36 in the third to tie it up at 3-3. McCauley and Birnstill got assists on the play.

Boston University capped the game off late in the third when Roche scored at 17:46 with assists from Brandon Yip and MacArther. NU pulled Thaler with 1:28 remaining and David Van der Gulik scored an empty-netter for BU.

BU outshot Northeastern, 44-17, in the game and went 2-for-10 on power plays while the Huskies went 2-for-5 with a man advantage.

Northeastern plays its final game of the season on Saturday when it takes on BU at Agganis Arena at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio Boston, 890 and 1400 AM, with Rob Rudnick and Bill Doherty.
