	Tony Zancanaro picked up a shorthanded goal for the Friars.

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts (1-6-0, 0-4-0 HEA) fell to Providence College (5-3-0, 4-1-0 HEA) on Saturday night by the score of 3-2. UMass' rookies came through with the scoring, with Chris Davis and Cory Quirk lighting the lamp for the Minutemen, but PC added a late goal to take the game and the weekend sweep. Massachusetts returns to action next weekend, facing Northeastern on the road Friday before hosting Boston University on Saturday.

As they did on Friday, the Friars scored their first goal of the night shorthanded off a UMass defensive breakdown. With Nate Meyers in the box for boarding, PC's Torry Gajda took the miscue and fed a pass to Tony Zancanaro. He skated in alone on Gabe Winer, beating him at 4:49 of the first for the 1-0 lead.

Shots were 11 to five in favor of the Minutemen, who were 0-for-3 on the power play in the first. Providence went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

PC added to its lead with an even-strength goal at 9:16 of the middle stanza. The Friars were able to sustain pressure down low and made it a two-goal game when James Pemberton knocked the puck past Winer with players scrambling in front of the net. Nick Mazzolini and Brad Cooper also assisted on the goal.

Rookie Chris Davis broke PC's bid for a shutout just 2:28 into the third, with the goal assisted by Topher Bevis, his first career collegiate point.. The goal broke a 157:03 scoreless draught at the Mullins Center, and was Davis' first collegiate goal at home, the second in his career.

Freshman Cory Quirk tied it all up at two with his first collegiate tally at 15:54. Quirk's goal was assisted by Kevin Jarman and Jamie Solon. The assists were the first points on the season for both Jarman and Solon. But Providence had the last word with a late goal by Cody Wild, assisted by Chase Watson and Dinos Stamoulis at 18:37.

Coach Don Cahoon pulled Winer with 45 seconds remaining, but UMass could not force overtime.

Overall, shots were 34-20 in favor of the Minutemen. UMass was 0-5 on the power play while PC was 0-3.
