The field is set for the 2011 Hockey East Championship Tournament at TD Garden in Boston

Wakefield, Mass. - Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna announced on Sunday night the pairings for the upcoming 2011 Hockey East tournament semifinal games on Friday, March 18th at the TD Garden in Boston.

No. 1 seed Boston College (28-7-1, 20-6-1 HEA) will face No. 6 seed Northeastern (14-15-8, 10-10-7 HEA) on Friday at 5pm. The Eagles swept No. 8 seed Massachusetts in their series at Conte Forum over the weekend, while the Huskies went three games with No. 3 seed BU and won the decisive game on Sunday night by a 5-4 score. BC and Northeastern went 1-1-1 in the regular-season series and BC also won the fourth meeting in the Beanpot Championship Game, 7-6 in overtime at the TD Garden. The Eagles, who are the defending champions of the tournament, have won a league-record nine Hockey East Tournament titles, including two of the last three. BC owns a 20-7-0 all-time record as the No. 1 seed in the Hockey East Tournament.

No. 2 seed UNH (21-9-6, 17-6-4 HEA) will faceoff with No. 4 seed Merrimack (24-8-4, 16-8-3 HEA) in the late game at 8pm. The Wildcats advanced to the Garden for the first time in three years with a series sweep against Vermont at the Whittemore Center. Merrimack advanced to the semifinals for the second time in league history with a series sweep vs. Maine at Lawler Arena, which includes their first appearance at the Garden since 1998. The Warriors won the regular-season series with UNH, 2-1-0.

UNH is 8-0 all-time vs. Merrimack in the Hockey East playoffs, all of which have come in quarterfinal play. Their last playoff meeting came in March of 2002. BC and Northeastern have met six times in the Hockey East tournament with the Eagles holding a 5-1 all-time record. The teams have met in the semifinals once previously in 1987, a 9-3 BC victory. It marks the seventh appearance for Northeastern in the semifinal round, their first since 2009.

The winners of each game will advance to the Hockey East Championship Game on Saturday, March 19th at 7 p.m. at the TD Garden. All three games will be televised live in HD by the New England Sports Network with Saturday's Championship Game being shown on NESNplus. Tom Caron and Craig Janney will have the call from Causeway Street.

Tickets for the 2011 Hockey East Championship are still available at the TD Garden box office, by calling 1-800-745- 3000 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com. Ticket prices are $17 and $25 for balcony seats and $30, 37 and $39 per seat in the loge and club sections.

The Hockey East Association is a 10-team, Division-I college hockey conference, with offices based in Wakefield, Mass. Founded in 1983, the league has won seven NCAA championships in the past 18 years. The league also sponsors an eight-team women's league which began play in 2002-03.
