Northeastern and Boston University each had two players named to the All-Rookie team
Wakefield, Mass. - The Hockey East Association announced its 2011 Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team on Wednesday afternoon. The first-year players will be honored alongside several individual award winners at Thursday's annual championship awards night at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, Mass.
Massachusetts forward Michael Pereira (West Haven, Conn.) and Boston University forward Charlie Coyle (East Weymouth, Mass.) were unanimous selections to the squad, as chosen by the 10 league head coaches. Boston University also added a defenseman to the squad in Adam Clendening (Wheatfield, N.Y.), while Northeastern had two players chosen in forward Brodie Reid (Delta, B.C.), and defenseman Anthony Bitetto (Island Park, N.Y.). Merrimack College's Mike Collins (Boston, Mass.) and Boston College's Bill Arnold (Needham, Mass.) round out the remaining forward selections. Maine's Dan Sullivan (York, Pa.) was named the league's top first-year goaltender.
Among the other individuals who will be honored at Thursday's banquet will be University of Maine senior captain Tanner House (Cochrane, Alta.) as the Gladiator Hockey Best Defensive Forward. He was a +13 in league play which ranked 10th among conference skaters and notched 27 points and 19 assists in league play.
The Len Ceglarksi Sportsmanship Award will also be presented to a Maine athlete, junior forward Brian Flynn (Lynnfield, Mass.). The Sportsmanship Award is given annually to the league player who has consistently played at a high level, while maintaining a high standard of conduct both on and off the ice. Flynn recorded only six penalty minutes, playing in all 27 league contests for the Black Bears. Senior Defenseman Jeff Dimmen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) of Maine will be honored with the Turfer Athletic Award, which is presented annually to an individual, coach or team who best represents the core values of Turfer Athletics; tenacity, commitment and innovation.
Boston College will also be well represented, as sophomore Brian Dumoulin (Biddeford, Maine) will be the recipient of the Old Time Hockey Best Defensive Defenseman award. Fellow teammate John Muse (East Falmouth, Mass.) earned the Bauer Goaltending Champion posting a careerbest 1.84 GAA on the strength of a .933 save% in his senior season in 22 league starts for the Eagles. The award is given to the player with the best combined goaltending statistics in conference games.
