Nine Hockey East players were selected in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft
NEWARK, N.J. - Nine Hockey East players were selected in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft on Sunday at the Prudential Center hosted by the NHL's New Jersey Devils.
Boston College defenseman Ian McCoshen was the first player selected off the draft board with the 31st overall pick in the second round by the Florida Panthers. Fellow incoming Eagles blueliner Steve Santini was chosen just 11 picks later with the 42nd overall selection (2nd round) by the New Jersey Devils. UNH's Brett Pesce (Carolina) and Providence's John Gilmour (Calgary) were the lone players selected who skated in Hockey East last season. Boston College led the way three incoming players selected, while Providence College had two players tabbed.
A total of 548 Hockey East student-athletes have been selected in the NHL draft in the 29-year history of the league, which includes 11 first round choices in the last seven NHL Entry Drafts.
The Hockey East Association is a 10-team Division I college men's hockey conference founded in 1984 and an eight team Division I women's league which began play in 2002-03. The men's league has won eight NCAA championships in the past 21 years. Since 1999, Hockey East has won six NCAA Championships and have placed 21 teams in the Frozen Four, along with 56 teams in the NCAA Tournament.
