Mike Brown (NU '13) will serve as the Hockey East Graduate Intern for the coming season
Wakefield, Mass. - Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna has announced that Mike Brown, a 2013 graduate of Northeastern University, has been hired as Hockey East's graduate intern for the upcoming 2013-2014 season.
Brown will assist in day-to-day operations in both the men's and women's league in the Wakefield office, which includes event management, marketing and media relations efforts throughout the season.
"Mike has a number of great experiences on his resume for a recent college graduate," said Bertagna. "We are thrilled to have him as part of the league staff for our 30th anniversary season."
Brown, a South Berwick, Maine native, graduated from Northeastern with a bachelors degree in Journalism. He worked for the Boston Bruins as a media relations intern in 2011 and has worked on their game night staff each of the last two seasons. While at the Bruins, he has compiled and distributed press releases, notes and statistics for the media and also transcribed player interviews.
He also worked in the Northeastern Athletic Communications office during the 2012-13 season, working primarily with the men's and women's hockey teams and women's volleyball team. He assisted with writing game notes and press releases and was part of their game day stat crew and social media team. Brown also served as a columnist for the Huntington News in 2010-11, writing weekly features on Husky student-athletes.
The Hockey East graduate intern program is in its eighth year of existence, with Scott Donnelly (Providence '06), Andrew Bartlett (Providence '07), Elizabeth Paige Fierman (BU '08), Stephanie Bambury (St. Michael's '09), Greg Rosa (Boston College '10), Andrew Zagorianakos (Maine '11) and Kristen Blake (Northeastern '12) having served before Brown.
The Hockey East Association is a 11-team Division I college men's hockey conference founded in 1984 and an eight team Division I women's league which began play in 2002-03. The men's league has won eight NCAA championships in the past 21 years. Since 1999, Hockey East has won six NCAA Championships and have placed 21 teams in the Frozen Four, along with 56 teams in the NCAA Tournament.
