WAKEFIELD, Mass. Northeastern University sophomore forward Kevin Roy, who led the nation in scoring in October, has been named the first Hockey Commissioners' Association National Division 1 Player of the Month for 2013.

Roy, a native of Lac-Beauport Quebec, recorded 12 points (7g,5a) in the season's opening month in six games, which is tied for the national lead, along with Miami's Riley Barber and Minnesota's Sam Warning. His 1.17 points per game ranks second his second among Division I skaters, his seven goals rank third nationally and his 30 shots on goal are the fourth best total. Roy helped lead the Huskies to a 5-1-0 record in the month, which is their best start since the 2008-09 season.

He posted a point in all six games in the month and totaled five multiple point games for Northeastern. Roy, a 2012 fourth round selection (97th overall) of the NHL's Anaheim Ducks, opened the season with a four-point game and a hat trick vs. Alabama-Hunstville on October 11 at Matthews Arena in Boston. During a weekend set at St. Lawrence, Roy had two goals to lead the Huskies to a 6-3 come-from-behind victory against the Saints, marking the first time since Jan. 7, 2011 that NU erased a 2-0 deficit to come back and win the game.

Roy, who amassed 34 points (17g,17a) in 29 games last season for the Huskies, needed 14 games in his freshman campaign to reach his current point total.

University of Notre Dame forward Vince Hinostroza (Bartlett, Ill.) is the HCA Rookie of the Month for October. He led the Fighting Irish to a 5-1-0 record in the month, while leading the team in scoring with eight points (3g,5a) in six October contests.

His eight points and five assists ranked third among Division I rookies. His 17 shots on goal is also second in the country among first-year skaters.

He recorded a point in five of the six games with two multi-point efforts to his credit. Hinostroza, a 2012 sixth round NHL draft pick (169th overall) of the Chigago Blackhawks, registered a career-high three points (2g,1a) on October 20 vs. Michigan Tech at Compton Family Ice Arena.
