~PC’s Sims takes Goalie honors; UNH’s vanRiemsdyk tabbed as Top Rookie~

Gerbe registered a team-high nine points (4g,5a) and plus minus rating of +4 in seven
games in January, leading the Eagles to a 4-1-2 January record. He tallied at least
one point in five of seven games, including three multiple-point performances. Earned
Hockey East Player of the Week honors on Jan. 14 after two stellar efforts against
Vermont; recorded three points (1g,2a) and a +4 rating in the team’s 4-1 win over
Vermont on Jan. 9, then scored two points (1g,1a) in a 5-2 win over the Catamounts
Jan. 11. Netted one power-play goal and two game-winning goals; scored the decisive
goal in the team’s 5-2 win over Vermont on Jan. 11 and tallied the game-winning score
in the team’s 4-2 win at Maine on Jan. 26.

ITECH Goaltender of the Month
Tyler Sims – Providence
Senior Goaltender; Fort Wayne, Ind.

Sims recorded a 4-2-0 record in the month for the Friars with a 2.34 GAA
and a .916 save percentage. He earned wins against four nationally ranked
teams in the month and he allowed three goals or less in all six games.
Sims totaled a 30-save effort on Jan. 26 in the 5-2 victory over the Huskies.
In the first three game of the month, Providence played in three one-goal
game, including two overtime contests. Sims notched 25+ saves in four of
the six games in the month of January.

PRO AMBITIONS Rookie of the Month
James vanRiemsdyk – New Hampshire

vanRiemsdyk returned to the UNH lineup two games into the month, but was one of
the most productive players in the league in January. The freshman forward potted
four goals and three assists for seven points in just five games. He had a goal and an
assist in each game of a weekend home-and-home sweep of No. 5 Massachusetts. He
tallied a goal in UNH’s loss to Dartmouth and closed out the month with the gamewinning
goal and an assist in UNH’s 5-3 win over Boston University. vanRiemsdyk was
the Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Jan. 14.
