The New England Hockey Writers Div. I Men’s All-Star team has been announced and will be presented at the New England Hockey Writers annual awards banquet on Wednesday, April 16 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass.

The team starts with New Hampshire’s Kevin Regan and Harvard’s Kyle Richter at goaltender. Regan posted a 23-8-1 with a 2.21 goals against average and a .930 save percentage, leading the Wildcats to the Hockey East regular season title. Richter led Harvard to an ECAC Hockey final appearance, posting a 17-13-4 record, 2.19 GAA and a .923 save percentage.

Brad Flaishans of New Hampshire, Matt Gilroy of Boston University, Mike Kostka of Massachusetts and Matt Taormina of Providence make up the All-New England defense. All four defensemen posted at least 20 points and plus/minus ratings of at least +8.

The forwards were headlined by a pair each from BU and UNH, both of which ranked in the nation’s top 10 in scoring. Bryan Ewing (17-26-43) and Pete MacArthur (21-24-45) led the Boston University offense while Matt Fornataro (18-28-46) and Mike Radja (19-24-43) were the top scorers for New Hampshire. They were joined by Boston College’s Nathan Gerbe, a Hobey Baker Award top-10 finalist who has 30-30-60 totals heading into the NCAA Frozen Four, and Northeastern’s Joe Vitale, who helped the Huskies contend in Hockey East with his 12-23-35 scoring line.

The New England Hockey Writers banquet is college hockey’s social event of the year. It will be held Wednesday, April 16 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Prince Restaurant on Route 1 in Saugus, Mass. Reservations must be made by April 10 with Northeastern Athletic Ticket Manager John Gruppo at 617-373-7409.
