~NU picks up four more points; Maine takes three points from Merrimack~

WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- In the second full weekend of Hockey East action, Vermont swept No. 2 Boston University at Agganis Arena and fifth-ranked Northeastern
also collected four points on the weekend. No. 4 Boston College split its weekend series with Massachusetts,
while Maine stayed unbeaten in seven straight games with a three-point weekend vs. Merrimack.
Vermont defeated BU by a score of 4-3 Friday night at Agganis Arena, led by Peter Lenes’ (Shelburne,
Vt.) three points on the night. Sophomore Colby Cohen (Villanova, Pa.) had two assists for BU. The teams
battled again Saturday night, when Vermont defeated the Terriers by the same score. Reebok Player
of the Week Viktor Stalberg (Gothenburg, Sweden) earned a shorthanded goal and an assist in the victory.
Northeastern topped New Hampshire Friday night, 3-2. Sophomore James van Riemsdyk (Middletown,
N.J.) tallied both Wildcat goals, while Wade MacLeod (Coquitlam, B.C.) scored the eventual game-winner for
the Huskies in the third. NU goaltender and Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Brad Thiessen (Aldergrove,
B.C.) stopped 37 shots, as both teams combined for 75 shots on goal. The Huskies then traveled to
Tsongas Arena and defeated UMass-Lowell 4-3. Greg Costa (Crownsville, Md.) earned a hat-trick in the victory,
while Thiessen stopped another 36 shots for the Huskies.
Sophomore goalie John Muse (East Falmouth, Mass.) earned his first shutout of the season in BC’s 2-0
victory over UMass at Conte Forum. Both Eagle goals came on the power play, bringing their season total to
19 with a man advantage. The teams met again Saturday in Amherst, where they were tied at three through
regulation. Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week Casey Wellman (Brentwood, Calif.) netted the game-winner with
41 seconds remaining in overtime. Wellman also added two assists in the victory. UMass sophomore James
Marcou (King Park, N.Y.) notched two goals on the night. Muse stopped 37 shots for the Eagles, while Paul
Dainton (Genelle, B.C.) stopped a career-high 39 shots for the Minutemen.
The Black Bears picked up their sixth victory in a row Friday night when they beat Merrimack, 2-1, in
Orono. The Warriors struck first within the first minute of the game, but Maine quickly retaliated with a goal
from Will O’Neill (Salem, Mass.). Brett Carriere (Ottawa, Ont.) notched the game-winner 9:43 into the game,
and both teams were held scoreless in the final two periods. In the second contest of the series, the teams
stayed knotted at one apiece through overtime. Francois Ouimet (Lorraine, Que.) and Keif Orsini (Montreal,
Que.) scored the lone goals for Merrimack and Maine, respectively.
UML enjoyed a commanding victory 6-1 over Providence behind Kory Falite’s (Billerica, Mass.) two goals
on Friday night. River Hawk netminder Nevin Hamilton (Ashland, Mass.) stopped 30 shots on the night. PC
traveled to UNH on Saturday. Sophomore Danny Dries (Lake Orion, Mich.) netted two goals for UNH in the
4-3 victory at the Whittemore Center. Brian Foster (Pembroke, N.H.) stopped 32 shots on the night, while PC
blueliner Mark Fayne (Bourne, Mass.) notched his first and second goals of the season in the losing effort.

Nov. 25, 1995: Senior Jeff Daw scores three goals, including the 50th of his
career, and sets up three more for a six-point game as UMass Lowell bests
UNH, 9-6, in the Governors Cup in Orono, Maine.
Nov. 28, 1990: Dick Umile earns his first Hockey East victory with a 7-3 win
over Lowell at Snively Arena.
Nov. 28, 2001: Senior goaltender Cam McCormick registers his fourth
shutout of the season and ties Brian Doyle’s school record with the sixth of his
career, making 18 saves as UMass Lowell blanks Union, 3-0, in Schenectady,
N.Y. The win is the 100th in the career of head coach Blaise MacDonald.
TEAM NOTES
Boston College: Boston College combined to score five
goals in the two-game series split with Massachusetts. The
team’s five goals were scored by five forwards and 14 players
tallied at least one point…BC’s 2-0 shutout victory over
the Minutemen on Friday marked BC’s first since the Hockey
East Tournament title game against Vermont (4-0) on March.
22, 2008…Seniors Brock Bradford (Burnaby, B.C.) and Benn
Ferriero (Essex, Mass.) as well as sophomore Brian Gibbons
(Braintree, Mass.) each had scoring streaks snapped over
the weekend. Bradford (9-5-14) and Gibbons (1-7-8) each
had streaks of seven games broken while Ferriero’s six-game
streak came to an end on Friday against UMass…Freshmen
Paul Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) scored his fourth goal (in
his ninth collegiate game) and tallied an assist at UMass on
Saturday. Carey was BC’s only player with multiple points in
the two-game series and has registered at least one point
in four straight contests…John Muse recorded 27 saves in
his first shutout performance of the season and the fourth
shutout of his career.
Boston University: Sophomore Colby Cohen ranks first
among Hockey East defensemen in points with 12 (1g, 11a)
and is fourth in the nation among blueliners in points per
game at 1.09...Senior Chris Higgins took over the team lead
in goals with seven after earning a tally in each of BU’s games
against Vermont and now has 98 career points...Freshman
goaltender Kieran Millan (Edmonton, Alb.) suffered his first
loss on Saturday after becoming the first Terrier to win his
first five collegiate starts since Michel Larocque won his first
seven starts as a freshman during the 1995-96 season...
Senior Brandon Yip (Maple Ridge, B.C.) has scored a goal in
six of BU’s last eight meetings with Vermont...The Terriers are
halfway through their six-game homestand and will welcome
Holy Cross and St. Lawrence to Agganis Arena on Tuesday
(Nov. 25) and Saturday (Nov. 29), respectively...Tuesday’s
game will mark BU’s first contest with the Crusaders since
Jan. 5, 1948.
Maine: The Black Bears extended their unbeaten streak to
seven games with a win and a tie against Merrimack...It is the
longest unbeaten streak for Maine since starting the 2006-07
season with a nine-game unbeaten streak...Maine head coach
Tim Whitehead recorded his 250th career victory on Friday
night against Merrimack...Maine has killed off 33 of the last
34 opponent power plays...Maine has allowed two goals or
less in nine of its 11 games this season.
Massachusetts: UMass is 3-1-1 against teams ranked in
the nation’s Top-5 this season…Saturday’s crowd of 8,389
against No. 4 Boston College was a Mullins Center record
and the 9th largest attendance for UMass all-time…In the last
eight games vs. Boston College, UMass is 5-3-1…UMass
has now scored four-or-more goals in a game five times this
season …The Minutemen are now 3-1-0 at home this year
…UMass has now fallen to 0-for-19 on power play chances
dating back to Nov. 1…UMass is now 6-0-0 when scoring
three-or-more goals this season and 0-4-1 when scoring fewer
than three goals.
UMass -Lowell : The River Hawks scored nine goals in
two games over the weekend, both home games. UML is
averaging 4.30 goals per game at home (30 goals in 7 home
games)…The River Hawks had their streak of seven straight
games with a power play goal end Saturday night. UML has a
man-advantage goal in eight of 11 games and rank fourth in
Hockey East in power play percentage (20.0%)…Saturday’s
4-3 loss to Northeastern dropped the River Hawks to 0-3-0
this season in games decided by one goal…Nick Monroe
(1g, 3a) and Nick Schaus (0g, 5a) each have four-game point
streaks…UMass Lowell visits Merrimack Tuesday night.
Merrimack: The Warriors snapped a six-game losing streak
in Maine dating back to a 2-2 tie on December 3, 2004…Merrimack
snapped Maine’s six-game winning streak with the 1-1
tie on Saturday…J.C. Robitaille’s (Des Rouisseaux, Que.) goal
46-seconds into the game on Friday marked the quickest Warrior
tally to start a game since Mickey Rego (Hudson, Mass.) potted
a goal 44 seconds in against PC on March 4, 2006…Merrimack
has scored just 11 goals in Andrew Braithwaite’s (Kingston,
Ont.) seven starts…The Warriors’ penalty kill did not allow
a goal in 11 short-handed situations against Maine over the
weekend…Francois Ouimet’s (Lorraine, Que.) goal on Saturday
was his first since scoring twice opening night vs. Robert Morris…
The Warriors wrap up their three game in five day schedule
when they host UMass Lowell on Tuesday.
New Hampshire: UNH is now 10-1-1 in its last 12 games
against Providence...After going the first nine games of the
season without a multi-goal performer, the Wildcats have had
a player two multi-goals in each of the past four games. Danny
Dries (11/14 @ UML, 11/22 vs. PC), Mike Sislo (11/15 @ BC),
James van Riemsdyk (11/21 @ NU)...UNH remains unbeaten
at 5-0-1 at Whittemore Center...Joe Charlebois has a point in
three straight games (0-5-5)...Mike Sislo has already doubled
his goal production from a year ago with six goals in 13 games
compared to just three all last year…UNH sophomores have
scored a goal in 12 of 13 games this season including two goals
by Danny Dries and one from Mike Sislo on Saturday against
Providence. The second-year Wildcats have accounted for 68.5
percent of the goal scoring 24-of-35 goals.
Northeastern: Greg Costa had the first hat trick of his collegiate
career on Saturday against UMass Lowell. It was NU’s
first hat trick since Ryan Ginand (Milford, Mass.) on Nov. 4, 2005.
Ginand had assists on two of Costa’s goals and had a goal of his
own in the game...NU’s line of Ginand, Costa and Chris Donovan
(Fairfax Station, Va.) had five goals and five assists over two
games...At 9-2-2, Northeastern is off to its best start through
13 games since 1980-81 (12-1-0). NU’s 7-2-1 Hockey East start
is its best ever...Northeastern’s penalty kill was perfect in both
games this weekend. The Huskies have held opponents scoreless
on the power play in eight of 13 games and lead Hockey
East with a 92.8 percent penalty kill...Northeastern has a goal
differential of +1.15. The last time Northeastern had a positive
goal differential for the season was 2001-02 (+0.18).
Providence Colege: Junior co-captain John Cavanagh
(Warwick, R.I.) who had six goals in his first two seasons at
Providence, already has four this season and leads the team
in goals…The Friars trailed 4-1 against No. 13 UNH on Saturday
and mounted a comeback before falling short, 4-3. PC
outshot the Wildcats, 18-3, in the third period and 35-30 for
the game…Junior defenseman Mark Fayne (Sagamore Beach,
Mass.) scored his first goal of the season on Saturday…Freshman
Matt Bergland scored his third goal of the season and
continues to lead the team in scoring with 12 points (three
goals, nine assists)…The Friars will play their next four games
against ECAC opponents
Vermont: The Catamounts became the first team in 16 years
to sweep a weekend series at Boston University with a 4-3 win
over the Terriers on both Friday and Saturday…Maine was the
last team to win on consecutive days at BU, doing so on Nov.
20 and 21, 1992 at Walter Brown Arena…Vermont (7-3-2, 4-3-1
HEA) didn’t win its seventh game last season until Feb. 3…UVM
is 7-6-3 against BU since joining Hockey East…Seven of the 12
games that Vermont has played this season have come against
opponents ranked in the top-7 nationally…Those teams have
a combined 31-13-6 record and the Catamounts have gone
3-3-1 in games against those opponents…UVM is 15-4 in onegoal
games dating back to the start of last season…Vermont
is unbeaten in 42 straight games when scoring at least four
goals…Senior Peter Lenes ranks tied for fourth among Hockey
