WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Hockey East teams had a busy holiday week of play, as No. 6 Boston College, No. 8 Boston University, UMass-Lowell, and No. 13 Vermont all collected two victories on the week. UMass-Lowell and Merrimack also notched league wins during the week.

The Warriors topped UNH 4-3, Saturday night at the Whittemore Center in Durham. Jesse Todd (Calgary, Alta.) potted the game-winner with just over nine minutes remaining in the game. Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Joe Cannata stopped 33 shots in the victory. It was only Merrimack’s third win at UNH’s Whittemore Center since 1995. The Warriors dropped their midweek matchup against UMass-Lowell by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. River Hawks captain Ben Holmstrom (Colorado Springs, Colo.) notched two assists in the victory. UML collected another win, defeating the RIT 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at Tsongas Arena. Reebok Player of the Week Scott Campbell (Navan, Ont.) tallied five points, including his first career hat trick in the victory, while teammate Mike Potacco (Kinnelon, N.J.) added four assists.

Vermont trailed Massachusetts, 2-0, on Tuesday night before Viktor Stalberg (Gothenburg, Sweden) tied the game with under a minute remaining in overtime. Senior Peter Lenes (Shelburn, Vt.) notched the game-winner for the Catamounts with 23 seconds left in overtime for the 4-3 victory. UVM went on to top Maine 3-2, ending the Black Bears’ seven-game unbeaten streak, on Saturday night. Josh Burrows (Prairie Grove, Ill.) earned two assists for the Catamounts.

BU hosted two non-league games at Agganis Arena, defeating Holy Cross 3-2 on Tuesday night. Sophomore Colin Wilson (Winnipeg, Man.) earned two points on the night for the Terriers. On Saturday, BU earned a convincing victory over St. Lawrence, 4-1. Senior Chris Higgins (Lynnfield, Mass.) earned his 100th career point, assisting on Wilson’s seventh goal of the season. BU remains undefeated in out-of-conference play this season with a 5-0 record. UMass also hosted the Saints, but was defeated 4-3. Cory Quirk (Brockton, Mass.) had a hand in all three UMass goals, scoring two and assisting on the third.

Northeastern took third place in Rensselaer Tournament, as the Huskies suffered their first non-league loss of the season in a 5-3 decision against Princeton on Friday. NU netminder Brad Thiessen (Aldergrove, B.C.) made 34 saves on the night. The Huskies went on to defeat RPI on Saturday, 5-1, behind Rob Rassey’s (Shelby Township, Mich.) two-point night and another 25 saves by Thiessen.

BC swept its ECAC opponents over the weekend. The Eagles enjoyed a convincing 5-1 win over Harvard on Friday night, when Andrew Orpik (East Amherst, N.Y.) netted two goals. The Eagles then earned a come-from-behind victory over Dartmouth Sunday afternoon. Brian Gibbons (Braintree, Mass.) tied the game 1-1 with 38 seconds left in regulation and Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week Barry Almeida (Springfield, Mass.) netted the game-winner with just over a minute left in overtime.

Providence dropped a pair of non-conference games this weekend, first falling to Dartmouth, 4-2 on Friday night. They were then defeated by Union, 4-2, Saturday evening. Pierce Norton (South Boston, Mass.) tallied two assists in the losing effort.

Campbell recorded a career-high five points (3g,2a), including his first career hat trick in the 6-3 win vs. RIT on Saturday. He won 30 off 44 faceoffs (68.2%) in two games last week.

Bobby Butler, UNH (So., F, Marlboro, Mass.) Registered a goal and an assist against Merrimack on Saturday night.

Zach Cohen, BU (Jr., F, Schaumburg, Ill.) Scored a goal in both BU wins on the week, including his first career game-winner on Saturday against SLU.

December 2, 2000: UMass Lowell plays the first 0-0 game in the school’s 34-year history when the River Hawks and fifth-ranked New Hampshire are both shut down at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. Junior Cam McCormick stops 29 shots to record the shutout for UMass Lowell.

Dec. 5, 1992: Paul Kariya tied a Maine record with five assists in an 11-2 win over Northeastern. He finished with six points in the game with ties a school record for most points in a game.

TEAM NOTES

Boston College: BC improved to 2-1-1 in overtime games with its 2-1 win at Dartmouth on Sunday. Each of BC’s last two trips to Hanover, N.H., and Thompson Arena have been decided in overtime. Dartmouth previously earned a 5-4 overtime victory on Nov. 26, 2002…Freshman forward Cam Atkinson (Greenwich, Conn.) tallied his first career multiple-point performance (1 g, 1 a) in BC’s 5-1 win over Harvard…With one goal and one assist over the weekend, senior captain Brock Bradford (Burnaby, BC) has recorded 22 points and 13 goals in 14 games. He leads the country in points per game (1.57) and ranks second among all players in goals per game (0.93)…The Eagles seven goals were scored by six different skaters. Only Andrew Orpik registered multiple goals on the weekend.

Boston University: BU has a perfect 5-0-0 record against non-conference opponents, its best start since winning its first six non-league games during the 1997-98 season. Last year, the Terriers went 2-6-1 in non-conference play... Senior Chris Higgins and sophomore Kevin Shattenkirk (New Rochelle, N.Y.) have scored at least one point in all five non-conference games this season...Eleven different Terriers recorded a point in the win over St. Lawrence..The Terriers already have four shorthanded goals this season after tallying just two in 2007-08...BU has not been handed a shutout loss in two years, with the last coming against BC (1-0) on Dec. 2, 2006...Senior Brandon Yip (Maple Ridge, B.C.) BU will be aiming for its 10th win of the season when it closes out its six-game homestand with a match-up against archrival Boston College on Friday. Last season, the Terriers did not win their 10th game until Feb. 11.

Maine: Maine saw its seven game unbeaten streak snapped when it dropped a 3-2 decision to Vermont on Saturday night in Burlington, Vt...It was just the third time this season that Maine has given up more than two goals in a game and the first time that rookie goalie Scott Darling (Lemont, Ill.) has allowed more than two goals...The loss at Vermont was the first road loss of the season for the Black Bears...Prior to the game at Vermont, Maine was 6-1-0 on the season when taking a lead into the third period... Maine’s top two scorers on the season are rookies Gustav Nyquist (Malmo, Sweden) with 11 points and Brian Flynn with eight points...The Black Bears have allowed just four power play goals in 56 chances this season.

Massachusetts: UMass snapped an 0-for-19 power play streak against Vermont converting 2-of-2 extra man opportunities…The UMass penalty kill has gone 13-for-13 over the last four games (11/21)…In games won this year, UMass is averaging 5.3 goals per game and is 7-for-26 on the power play, while in games lost, UMass is averaging 1.2 goals per game and is 2-for-27 on the power play…UMass has scored 12 goals in the first period and 11 goals in the second period of games won, while just scoring two in each of those periods of games lost…UMass is 3-1-1 against teams ranked in the nation’s top-5 this season…UMass is 6-1-0 when scoring three or more goals this year…UMass has won five of its last six meetings against Conneticut and have only lost to the Huskies three times in the last 20 meetings…UMass ranks 11th nationally in attendance (5,188).

UMass-Lowell: Scott Campbell scored his first career hat trick and had a career-high five points in UML’s 6-3 win over RIT. The five-point game was the first for UML since Nov. 26, 1999 when both Chris Bell and Jeff Boulanger each had five points in a 13-1 win over UConn…UML has scored at least six goals in three of its last four home games and have scored 36 goals in eight games at home (4.5 per game)…The River Hawks are 5-0-0 when scoring multiple power play goals in a game and have a power play goal in 10 of 13 games…Kory Falite (Billerica, Mass.) has goals in two straight and seven in the last six. He leads the team with 10 goals…Saturday’s win was Blaise MacDonald’s 114th victory at UMass Lowell, tying him with Bill Riley for the most Div. I wins in school history.

Merrimack: Before the 4-3 win at New Hampshire Saturday, the Warriors owned a 2-35-5 record since 1995 against UNH… They had not won at the Whittemore Center since December 13, 2003 and are now 3-22-2 lifetime…Merrimack had scored just four goals in its last four games before potting four at New Hampshire and had not scored more than two in any road game this season…The 4-3 win was Head Coach Mark Dennehy’s 25th career win at Merrimack…Bobby Kramer and Elliott Sheen each notched their first collegiate goals on Saturday…Joe Cannata has lost just once in net this season (2-1-3)…Karl Stollery (Camrose, Alb.) continues to lead all Hockey East freshman blueliners in scoring with seven points…Merrimack will play just one home game in December, Sunday against Maine, and will play just that one game in the next 30 days. The Warriors take on Quinnipiac on December 29th at the UConn Holiday Classic.

New Hampshire: UNH dropped its first home game in 2008-09. It is 19-5-2 at home since the start of 2007-08... Joe Charlebois (Potsdam, N.Y.) has recorded an assist in each of the last four games and has seven assists overall during the streak... James van Riemsdyk has 12 points in his current seven-game scoring streak. van Riemsdyk has scored in 12 of 14 games this season...The Wildcat power play has scored in six of the last seven games including a tally on a 5-on-3 opportunity... Kevin Kapstad (Boxboro, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season on Saturday against Merrimack.

Northeastern: With a win Saturday, Northeastern became the third 10-win team in the nation behind only Air Force (13-1- 0) and Notre Dame (10-3-1)...Ryan Ginand has scored in four straight games and leads the Huskies in goals and scoring with a 10-4-14 line. He was named to the RPI Holiday Tournament All-Tournament team...Steve Silva (Tyngsboro, Mass.) returned from injury Nov. 14 at UVM and in six games since, he has points in five games and a 1-6-7 line in that span...Chris Donovan (Fairfax Station, Va.) has a four-game point streak (2- 2-4)...Northeastern’s penalty kill sits at 92.6 percent, just a tick behind Maine (92.9) in Hockey East and sixth in the nation. NU held RPI scoreless on seven power plays Saturday, marking the ninth time this season NU’s penalty kill has been perfect...The RPI Holiday Tournament was the second of four regular-season tournaments the Huskies play in this season. NU opened the season in the Kendall Hockey Classic in Anchorage, Alaska, and will also play in the Dodge Holiday Classic in Minneapolis after New Year’s and the Beanpot in February.

Providence Colege: Junior co-captain John Cavanagh (Warwick, R.I.) has five goals this season and has nearly matched his goal total from his first two seasons (six) at Providence College… Sophomore Eric Baier (North Kingstown, R.I.) picked up a career-high two assists against Dartmouth on Friday, while senior Pierce Norton (South Boston, Mass.) also recorded a career-high two assists at Union on Saturday…Senior Matt Taormina (Washington Township, Mich.) has moved up to 23rd in PC’s all-time scoring list among defensemen…The Friars have outshot their opponents in five of the last six games, including four consecutive contests…In the last four games, the Friars have scored six goals in the third period.

Vermont: The Catamounts have won five straight games, all by one goal, and have the nation’s second longest unbeaten streak (5)…Vermont is 7-1 in one-goal games this year and 17-4 in one-goal games dating back to the start of last season…Last week the Catamounts won back-to-back games when trailing after two periods…Prior to the come-from-behind victories, Vermont had won just once in 60 tries when trailing after 40 minutes…UVM is 4-3-1 against ranked teams this season and the College Hockey News KRACH Ratings indicate the Catamounts have the No. 1 strength of schedule in the country…Junior Viktor Stålberg has the following ranks in Hockey East games: tied for third in points (12), tied for seventh in goals (7), tied for fourth in assists (7), first in power-play points (7), tied for first in power-play goals (3) and tied for first in short-handed points (2)…Vermont hosts the USA U-18 Team on Friday (8pm) as part of a doubleheader with the UVM women’s hockey team which hosts Boston University at 3pm.
