PAIRINGS SET FOR 25TH ANNUAL TOURNAMENT AT TD BANKNORTH GARDEN

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - The Hockey East Association has announced the pairings for the upcoming 25th annual Hockey East Championships at the TD Banknorth Garden on Friday night, March 20 in Boston, Mass.

In the early game, No. 2 seed Northeastern University (25-10-4, 18-6-3 HEA) will faceoff against No. 5 seed UMass-Lowell (19- 15-2, 14-11-2 HEA). The Huskies advanced with a 3-2 overtime win in Game 3 vs. Massachusetts Sunday night on a goal by Alex Tuckerman. The River Hawks swept Vermont in Burlington by scores of 4-3 (OT) and 4-2. The teams have met just one other time in semifinal play. In 1988, NU won the total goal series (3-1, 1-2). The teams have met 13 times in the Hockey East playoffs with UML owning a 10-3-0 lifetime record vs. the Huskies. NU swept UMass-Lowell during the 08-09 regular-season series 3-0-0.

In the late game at 8 p.m. on Friday night, No. 1 seed Boston University (29-6-4, 18-5-4 HEA) will battle with cross-town archrival and No. 6 seed Boston College (18-13-5, 11-11-5 HEA). The Terriers were victorious vs. Maine in Game 3, 6-1, to punch their ticket to the Garden, while Boston College swept New Hampshire at the Whittemore Center by scores of 5-3 and 1-0. The teams have met 10 times in the Hockey East Playoffs and the Terriers own a 7-3-0 adavntage in the series. They last met in in the 2007 semifinals and BC was victorious, 6-2. BU won the only other meeting in the 2003 semifinals, 6-5, in double overtime. The Terriers went 2-0-1 in the 08-09 regular-season series vs. the Eagles.

The winners of each game will advance to the Hockey East Championship Game on Saturday, March 21st at 7 p.m. at the TD Banknorth Garden. All three games will be televised live in HD by the New England Sports Network (NESN).

The Hockey East Association is a 10-team, Division-I college hockey conference, with offices based in Wakefield, Mass. Founded in 1983, the league has won five NCAA championships in the past 14 years. The conference also sponsors an eight-team women’s league which began play in 2002-03.
