Cory Schneider makes 38 saves for the Eagles

Boston - Sophomore center Benn Ferriero registered one goal and two assists and junior goalie Cory Schneider made a season-high 38 saves to earn his 50th career victory and lead 13th-ranked Boston College to a 5-2 Hockey East win over sixth-ranked Boston University before 6,224 fans in Agganis Arena.

Sophomore defenseman Brett Motherwell tallied two assists and junior forward Dan Bertram recorded one gold and one assist for the visiting Eagles (13-9-1, 10-7-1 Hockey East).

Freshman forward Ben Smith scored a power-play goal at 3:49 of the first period and sophomore left wing Nathan Gerbe doubled the Eagles' margin less than two minutes later, beating goalie John Curry for an even-strength goal at 5:00.

BU sophomore Matt Gilroy got the host Terriers on the scoreboard at 3:28 of the middle period, scoring with one second remaining on the team's two-man advantage.

After senior Brian Boyle returned the BC margin to two goals - at 3-1 - with a power-play goal at 7:39, BU's Bryan Ewing scored at 13:46 to make the score 3-2.

Bertram regained the two-goal edge with his fourth goal of the season at 18:18 of the third period. Ferriero sealed the victory with an empty-net score at 19:10.

Schneider stopped nine shots in the first period, 14 in the second and 15 in the third to earn the win. He is the eighth goalie in BC history to record 50 wins.

Curry tallied 29 saves.
