BOSTON COLLEGE DEFEATS HARVARD IN BEANPOT, 3-1
Sophomore Benn Ferriero posts goal and assist for Eagles

BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Benn Ferriero had a goal and an assist to help Boston College advanced to the title game of the 55th Annual Beanpot Tournament with a 3-1 win over Harvard on Monday night at TD Banknorth Garden.

The Eagles will face the Boston University Terriers next Monday at 8:00 p.m. The game will be telecast live by NESN.

Harvard gained a 1-0 lead when senior captain Dylan Reese carried into the zone and snapped a shot through traffic that snuck between the pads of Boston College netminder Cory Schneider at 8:12 of the first period. Kevin Du picked up an assist on Reese's fifth goal of the season.

Later in the first, the Eagles would tie the game. Carrying up the right wing side, Ferriero picked up his 13th goal of the season when he blasted in a slap shot to tie the game at 1-1 with 2:33 remaining in the opening frame. Assists were credited to Joe Rooney and Mike Brennan.

In the second period, Boston College grabbed a 2-1 lead when Nathan Gerbe scored his fourth shorthanded goal of the season at 6:22. The play stared in the BC end when senior captain Brian Boyle chopped the puck out to center ice. Ferriero gathered the puck, carried into the Harvard end and fed a pass to Gerbe. Gerbe quickly snapped a backhand in for his 13th goal of the season.

The Eagles would secure the victory with an empty net goal by Boyle in the final minute. It was also Boyle's 13th goal this season.

Schneider finished with 20 saves for the Eagles. Harvard's freshman netminder Kyle Richter stopped 29 shots for the Crimson.
