BOSTON COLLEGE SHUTS OUT NORTHEASTERN, 3-0
Sophomore Brock Bradford scores twice for Eagles

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Sophomore right wing Brock Bradford scored two goals and junior goaltender Cory Schneider stopped all 25 shots that he faced to lead sixth-ranked Boston College in a 3-0 victory over Northeastern in game one of a best-of-three game league quarterfinal series in Conte Forum.

The teams will face off in game two of the Hockey East Tournament Quarterfinal series on Friday in Conte Forum.

Schneider’s shutout performance marked his fifth of the season and 14th of his three-year career, snapping the school’s record formerly held by Scott Clemmensen (1997-01). The junior had one shutout as a freshman and eight as a sophomore.

Freshman center Ben Smith (1 goal, 1 assist) scored his seventh goal of the season while sophomore Nathan Gerbe notched three assists for the Eagles (23-11-1), who are winners of their last seven.

Bradford scored his first goal of the contest at 18:21 of the first period, one-timing a pass from Gerbe on a two-on-one break past Northeastern freshman goalie Brad Thiessen (26 saves).

Smith doubled the BC margin with a man-advantage tally at 6:06 of the second stanza. Smith’s initial shot from the slot was stopped. After defenseman Brett Motherwell fired a slap shot, Smith put the rebound into the net for his fifth power-play goal of the year.

Bradford notched his second goal of the game – and his 14th of the season – just less than eight minutes into the final period (at 12:06). Smith and Gerbe assisted on the game’s final goal.

The host Eagles outshot the Huskies, 29-25. Although Northeastern (13-17-5) held an 18-6 advantage in the middle period, BC enjoyed a 13-5 shot advantage in the final frame.
