CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – For Boston College head coach Jerry York, the night’s most significant number was one. His team’s 5-2 season-opening Hockey East victory over Northeastern marked the Eagles’ first win of the 2006-07 campaign.

The rest of the 4,208 people in Kelley Rink thought another number much more impressive. That number is 750. BC’s win marked the 750th win of York’s legendary coaching career. York, the game’s winningest active coach, is just the second coach in college hockey history to reach this celebrated milestone.

York gained the victory after senior captain Brian Boyle and sophomore forward Brock Bradford each tallied two goals to lead BC. Sophomore forward Andrew Orpik tallied the Eagles’ other goal.

After a scoreless first period, Northeastern opened the scoring on sophomore Dennis McCauley’s goal at 1:41 of the middle period. Boyle evened the score at 14:50 and Bradford put BC on top at 15:30.

BC continued its onslaught with the first three goals of the third period. Bradford netted a power-play goal at 3:42. Boyle’s shorthanded goal extended the Eagles’ margin to three goals. Orpik made the score 5-1 at 16:44.

NU freshman Randy Guzior finished the night’s scoring at 18:13.

BC junior goalie Cory Schneider made 22 saves to earn his 38th collegiate victory. Northeastern freshman Brad Thiessen made 32 stops in his collegiate debut.
