Senior John Curry registers second consecutive shutout

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Bryan Ewing and Kevin Schaeffer scored first-period goals and John Curry made 19 saves to lead No. 8 Boston University to a 3-0 win over Merrimack College in Hockey East action Friday night at Lawler Arena.

Chris Higgins added a third-period goal and Pete MacArthur dished out two assists as the Terriers ran their win streak to three games and improved to 11-4-6 (8-3-5 Hockey East) on the season. Senior Jim Healey (Holyrood, N.F.) made 20 saves for Merrimack – including a stop on a breakaway by Ewing in the second period – as the Warriors dropped their fourth-straight to fall to 3-17-2 (3-12-0 Hockey East).

The Terriers opened the scoring at 7:45 when Ewing one-timed a pass from Jason Lawrence that squeezed past Healey to give BU a 1-0 lead. They pushed the lead to 2-0 when Schaeffer’s shot from the right point went through a screen and eluded Healey at 12:24. Kenny Roche and Chris Higgins picked up secondary assists on each of the goals, respectively.

In the third, Higgins took a pass from MacArthur and used a forehand deke to beat Healey at 6:05, capping the scoring. The Terriers outshot the Warriors 23-19 on the evening and killed off all eight Merrimack power plays. The Warriors, meanwhile, killed off all seven penalties and have killed off 55 of their last 60 penalties.

The Warriors and Terriers conclude their season series with a 7 p.m. contest at Agganis Arena Saturday night.
