Taormina lifts Providence past Boston College, 3-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Kyle Kucharski and senior Matt Greene each scored second-period goals to lead No. 9 Boston College in a 3-2 Hockey East loss to No. 13 Providence before 5,491 fans in Kelley Rink.

The visiting Friars scored twice in the opening stanza to take an early two-goal lead before Kucharski cut the deficit in half on his first score of the season at 3:35 of the middle period and Greene tied the score - at 2-2 - on his eighth goal of the year at 16:38.

PC junior Matt Taormina snapped the 2-2 tie at 15:33 of the third period to lead the Friars in their first road victory over the Eagle since Jan. 24, 2003.

Boston College outshot Providence, 38-23. The Eagles posted a 14-5 shot advantage in the third period.

Senior goalie Tyler Sims registered 36 saves, including 14 in the final frame, in the winning effort.

Providence senior Jon Rheault scored the game's first goal at 5:44 and sophomore Greg Collins doubled the PC lead just more than two minutes later - at 7:54.

BC freshman goalie John Muse made 20 saves. He falls to 12-6-7.
