Chris Auger scored his first two goals of the season in Lowell's 3-0 win over Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, MA. - Chris Auger scored two goals as the UMass Lowell River Hawks ended Merrimack's two-game winning streak, blanking the Warriors 3-0 Tuesday night at Lawler Arena.

Carter Hutton stopped 22 shots to help Lowell get its first conference win of the season.

Auger scored his first and second goals of the season to give UML the 2-0 lead midway through the second period. Ben Holmstrom added his first tally at 12:42 of the second on the power play to give the River Hawks the three goal lead.

Merrimack could not get anything going as they were outshot 17-4 in the game's first 29:06. They rebounded to fire 13 third-period shots-on-goal, but could not get one past the sophomore netminder.

Hutton's best save of the game came on a short-handed breakaway by Derek Pallardy (Chesterfield, MO).

Matt Jones (Kentwood, MI) fired seven shots on goal while Rob Ricci (Brampton, Ontario) added four for the Warriors. Pat Watson (Waltham, MA) stopped 24 shots, as he saw his record drop to 4-4-1.

Maury Edwards added two assists for the Riverhawks, while Holmstrom also posted a multi-point game with a goal and an assist.

This marked the first time Merrimack has been shutout this season.

The Warriors (6-5-1, 3-5-1 HEA) will finish their season-series with Lowell (3-3-4) Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Tsongas Arena. They do not return to Lawler Arena until January 4th when they take on the University of New Hampshire.
