MAINE FALLS TO NEW BRUNSWICK IN EXHIBITION, 2-1

Dave Wilson made 28 saves for the Black Bears

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's ice hockey team fell to the University of New Brunswick 2-1 on Saturday night in an exhibition game at Alfond Arena. Andrew Sweetland (Bonavista, Newfoundland) scored the lone goal for the Black Bears.

New Brunswick took a 1-0 lead 16:22 into the first period when John Scott Dickson scored a goal form the right face-off circle, beating Maine goalie Dave Wilson (Caledon East, Ontario). Kyle Bailey and Hunter Tremblay each assisted on the goal.

After a scoreless second period, Maine tied the game on the power play midway through the third period. Andrew Sweetland beat New Brunswick goalie Derek Yeomans on a short from just inside the right face-off circle. Simon Danis-Pepin (Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec) and Bret Tyler (Maynard. Mass.) each assisted on the goal for the Black Bears.

The game remained tied until New Brunswick scored at 10:24 to take the lead for good. Tremblay and Luke Gallant passed the puck back and fourth several times before Gallant rifled a shot past Wilson from in between the faceoff circles. It was a five-on-three goal for New Brunswick.

Wilson played well in goal for the Black Bears, making 26 saves on 28 shots. Michael Ouzas made 18 saves in 40 minutes of action for the Varsity Reds. He was replaced by Derek Yeomans in the third period. Yeomans stopped 10 shots. New Brunswick, who beat New Hampshire earlier this season, moves to 20-2-1 on the campaign including regular season and exhibition games.

Maine returns to Hockey East play on Saturday, December 8 when it hosts Merrimack at 7 p.m. at Alfond Arena in Orono.
