Senior Travis Ramsey closed his career with a game-winner

ORONO, Maine - Travis Ramsey (Lakewood, Calif.) scored 2:20 into overtime to lead the University of Maine men's ice hockey team to a 2-1 victory over UMass Lowell in the season finale for the Black Bears. Maine finishes the season with a record with a record of 13-18-3 overall and 9-15-3 in Hockey East play. UMass Lowell falls to 15-15-4 and 10-13-4 in conference play. UMass Lowell moves to 15-15-4 on the season and 10-13-4 in conference play.

UMass Lowell struck first when from behind the net, Koty Falite found Ben Holmstorm at 3:25 of the first period. Holmstrom beat Maine goalie Ben Bishop (Des Peres, Mo.) for his sixth goal of the season. Ryan Blair also assisted on the goal for the River Hawks.

Maine tied the game late in the first period on the power play. Tanner House (Cochrane, Alberta) won a faceoff to Billy Ryan (Milton, Mass.) who beat UMass Lowell goalie Carter Hutton for his sixth goal of the season on a shot from just outside the left faceoff circle.

The game remained 1-1 until Ramsey was able to net the game-winner in overtime. Ramsey had his shot from the blueline, go through traffic and find the back of the net. For Ramsey, it was his fourth goal of the season. Simon Danis-Pepin (Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec), who had the initial shot, and Ryan each assisted on the game-winning goal for Maine.

Maine goalie Ben Bishop made 20 saves in goal and finishes the season 13-18-3. Hutton falls to 6-8-2 on the campaign.

Before and after the game, Maine honored seniors Rob Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.), Nolan Boike (Arlington, Mass.), Wes Clark (Oakville, Ontario), Keenan Hopson (Prince George, British Columbia), Vince Laise (Brampton, Ontario), Travis Ramsey, Billy Ryan and Bret Tyler (Maynard, Mass.).
