PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's hockey team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie Vermont, 2-2, in overtime Friday night in a Hockey East battle at Schneider Arena. With the tie, the Friars moved to 2-4-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the league. Vermont moves to 2-2-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the conference.

After a scoreless first period, Vermont scored a short-handed goal and a power-play tally to take a 2-0 lead. Brian Roloff scored a short-hander at 8:20 as he pounced on a rebound following a shot from Viktor Stalberg. Just 1:27 later, Colin Vock ripped a one-timer from the right circle after pin-point passing from Dean Strong and Corey Carlson.

However, the Friars used the man advantage as well to cut the lead in half at 15:29. Senior Pierce Norton (South Boston, Mass.) took a feed from classmate Matt Taormina (Washington Township, Mich.) and fired a one timer past Vermont goaltender Mike Spillane. In the third period, Norton struck again on the power play. Freshman Matt Bergland (Faribault, Minn.) slid a cross-ice pass to Norton who fired a quick one timer into the net at 7:06. Freshman David Brown (Centennial, Colo.) also assisted on the goal.

The Friars finished with a 31-30 shot advantage as Spillane had 29 saves for the Catamounts. Freshman Justin Gates (Cranston, R.I.) finished with 28 stops for the Friars.

The Friars are back in action on Saturday, November 8 with a home game against No. 12 Notre Dame.
