Matt Lombardi had two goals and an assist for BC

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior forward Matt Lombardi scored twice and added an assist and sophomore defenseman Tommy Cross netted the decisive goal to lead Boston College to a 4-1 exhibition victory over St. Francis Xavier on Sunday in Kelley Rink.

BC scored twice in the first period and twice in the third period to earn the win. Each goal was scored while skating even strength.

Junior John Muse started in the BC net. He made five saves in the opening period. Sophomore Chris Venti (four saves) and freshman Parker Milner (six saves) played the second and third periods, respectively.

Lombardi opened the scoring just one minute, 49 seconds into the contest.

After St. Francis Xavier tied the score at 14:41, Cross put BC on top for good at 16:45. Two freshmen - Steven Whitney and Patrick Wey - assisted on the score.

Following a scoreless middle period, Lombardi doubled the BC lead with his second goal of the game at 2:17.

Freshman forward Pat Mullane concluded the scoring at 13:45, tipping a Lombardi shot past St. Francis goalie Bryan Gillis.

Gillis recorded 36 saves in the St. Francis net.

BC out shot the visiting X-Men, 40-16, including a 17-6 edge in the third period of play.

Boston College will host its second preseason exhibition contest against the USA U-18 Team on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.
