CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Two first-period special-teams goals - a power-play tally from Paul Carey and a shorthanded score by Brian Gibbons - lifted ninth-ranked Boston College to a 4-0 Hockey East win over third-ranked Maine before 7,126 fans in Kelley Rink.
The Eagles added one goal in each of the last two periods to secure the victory.
Carey, a junior, opened the scoring at 14:46, and Gibbons, a senior assistant captain, doubled the BC lead at 18:58.
Junior Tommy Atkinson netted his first career goal at 7:34 of the middle period, and sophomore Pat Mullane added a power-play goal at 7:14 of the final period.
Each team registered 17 shots through two periods, before Maine gained a 15-7 margin in the final 20 minutes.
Boston College finished 2-for-4 on the power play, while holding Maine scoreless on seven power-play chances.
BC senior John Muse made 32 saves to earn his 68th career victory and his 10th career shutout. Maine freshman Dan Sullivan made 14 saves in 47:13. Sophomore Shawn Sirman stopped six shots in 12:47.
