Senior forward Brian Gibbons had a goal and an assist for the Eagles

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's hockey team was defeated by No. 1 Boston College, 3-0, Friday night in a Hockey East game at Schneider Arena. The Eagles scored all three goals in the third period, while John Muse made 24 saves as they improved to 21-6-0 overall and 16-5-0 in Hockey East. The Friars are now 7-14-6 overall and 3-12-5 in league play.

The Friars held a 12-7 shot advantage in the first period, but John Muse turned aside all 12 attempts. PC junior goalie Alex Beaudry (Cumberland, Ontario) also stopped every shot in the first period, including several point blank stops.

Beaudry continued to shine in the second period as he made 16 stops, including a save off the stick of Kevin Hayes while the Friars were on the power play. However, early in the third period Brian Gibbons gained possession of the puck behind the Providence net and played it out front to Cam Atkinson who scored off a one-timer for his 21st goal of the season at the 5:00 mark. Gibbons added to BC's lead (2-0) at 16:13 on a shot from the point that beat Beaudry who was screened in front. Bill Arnold added an empty-net goal at 18:54 to secure BC's 13th win in the last 14 games.

Beaudry finished with 30 saves, while Muse collected his 11th career shutout with 24 stops.

The Friars are back in action on Saturday, February 12 when they play at UMass. The Eagles will not play until Monday, February 14 when they face Northeastern in the championship game of the Beanpot Tournament at the TD Garden.
