CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Jimmy Hayes recorded a hat trick, including the only two goals of the third period, to lift Boston College to a 4-2 win over Massachusetts that completed the Eagles' two-game sweep of the Hockey East quarterfinal-round series.

BC defeated the Minutemen, 4-1, on March 11.

The victory marked the 100th career win for BC's three-member senior class.

Hayes snapped a 2-2 tie at 8:33 of the third period, and added an empty-net goal with 23.1 seconds to play to secure the victory.

Massachusetts senior Chase Langeraap gave the visitors a 1-0 lead just 21 seconds into the game. That lead held up until Hayes netted his first goal - on the power play - at 4:32 of the middle period.

Senior captain Joe Whitney gave the Eagles a 2-1 advantage just more than four minutes later - at 8:52 - three seconds after the end of a BC power play.

Massachusetts evened the score on junior Michael Marcou's goal at 16:43.

Senior John Muse earned his 25th win of the season, making 18 saves. He is now tied with Greg Taylor (1993-97) as the school's career saves leader with 3,605 saves.

Massachusetts senior Paul Dainton stopped 30 shots in his final collegiate appearance. Dainton earned 45 victories in 123 career games.
