BOSTON UNIVERSITY DROPPED BY BROWN, 6-1, AT SHILLELAGH TOURNAMENT

Junior forward Chris Connolly had eight shots on goal for the Terriers

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Brown broke a 1-1 tie midway through the game with five consecutive tallies, as the No. 10/11 Boston University men's ice hockey team dropped a 6-1 contest to the Bears on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Shillelagh Tournament at the Sears Centre Arena.

Freshman Matt Nieto scored BU's lone goal when he tied the game at 1-1 late in the first period.

The Terriers (8-5-5) outshot Brown (4-4-4), 42-24. It was the second time this season that the former ECAC rivals have met, as the teams skated to a 4-4 overtime draw on Nov. 27 at Agganis Arena.

The Bears got goals from six different players and a 41-save performance in goal by Mike Clemente. Junior Kieran Millan made 18 saves for the Terriers.

Brown opened the scoring 8:51 into the contest when Chris Zaires scored an unassisted goal off a BU miscue.

Nieto evened the contest with 2:55 left in the opening stanza when he elevated the puck and then knocked it in as it was coming down next to the crease for his fourth goal in five games.

BU created several chances for a go-ahead tally in first half of the second period, but were unable to take advantage of any of them.

Brown started its five-goal run at 13:40 of the middle stanza on a power-play marker by Harry Zolnierczyk.

Bobby Farnham and David Brownschidle scored just over two minutes apart late in the second at 17:39 and 19:45, respectively, to give the Bears a 4-1 advantage heading into the second intermission.

BU held a 19-8 shot advantage in the final period, but Brown continued to defend well and then added two more goals within a span of 61 seconds to account for the 6-1 final.

The Terriers went 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Bears scored on one of their four chances with the man advantage.

BU will face either No. 12 Notre Dame or Minnesota State in Sunday's consolation game.
