Junior forward Daniel Hobbs scored two goals for the Minutemen

AMHERST, Mass. - Danny Hobbs scored a pair of goals for the UMass hockey team, but it was Jeff Lee's overtime goal with 3:19 remaining that sealed the 4-3 win for visiting New Brunswick on Saturday afternoon at the Mullins Center Practice Rink. The annual exhibition game kicked off the 2010-11 campaign as the Minutemen will face Minnesota for a pair of games next weekend to start the regular season.

Paul Dainton started the game making 18 saves while allowing just one goal through two periods of work. Jeff Teglia replaced Dainton for the third period where the rookie made seven saves.

Hobbs potted his first goal at the 5:52 mark of the first period giving the Minutemen a 1-0 lead at intermission.

New Brunswick's Ryan Seymour tied the game midway through the second period as the team's entered the second intermission tied 1-1.

The third period proved a wild one for both teams with UMass taking a 3-1 lead after power play goals from Mike Pereira and and Hobbs.

The Varsity Reds tied the game three mintues after Hobbs' second tally thanks to scores from Jordan Clendenning and Hunter Tremblay. Those two goals were just 15 seconds apart and proved the equalizers to force overtime.

Travis Fullerton earned the win in goal for New Brunswick making 25 saves.

For the game, the Reds outshot UMass 29-to-28. UMass was 2-for-6 on the power play, while New Brunswick was 0-for-2.

The Minutemen will head to Minnesota for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday night. Both games will start at 8 PM eastern standard time and can be watched live on Fox Sports North.
