Junior forward Wade Megan had two goals and two assists for the Terriers

The Providence College men's hockey team (9-11-2, 7-7-1 HE) was defeated by the No. 2/3 Boston University Terriers (15-6-1, 12-4-1 HE) by a final score of 8-0 Saturday night at Schneider Arena. The Terriers scored six power-play goals in the game to give them the weekend sweep against the Friars.

Boston University started early in the first period with Matt Nieto scoring what would eventually be the game winner on the power play at 3:39. Max Nicastro and Sahir Gill also scored to put the Terriers up 3-0 at the end of the first. Providence outshot BU, 11-8, in the period as well as 26-24 in the game.

At the start of the second period, the Friars had a 5-on-3 power-play opportunity, but could not capitalize. The Terriers, however, scored two power-play goals and an even strength goal to make the score at 6-0. In the third period, BU added two more power-play goals, to make the final score, 8-0. The Terriers finished the night 6-for-9 on the power play while the Friars went 0-for-4. Wade Megan led the way for BU with two goals and two assists, while Nieto had one goal and three assists.

Boston University goaltender Kieran Millan recorded the shutout for the Terriers, stopping all 26 shots he faced. Providence senior goaltender Alex Beaudry (Cumberland, Ont.) made 11 saves throughout the first two periods, while senior Justin Gates (Cranston, R.I.) stopped five shots in the third period.

The Friars return to the ice at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 24 against the UMass-Lowell River Hawks at Schneider Arena. The Terriers return home to Agganis Arena for a game against Maine on Friday January 27.
