Junior forward Branden Gracel had two goals and an assist for the Minutemen

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Travis Jeke and senior Steven Whitney scored consecutively to temporarily tie the score at 2-2 before Massachusetts scored three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the league-leading Eagles, 5-2 - and earn its first Kelly Rink victory since November 17, 2007.

Massachusetts opened the scoring with two first-period, special-teams' goals. Steven Guzzo scored a shorthanded goal at the 6:35 mark and Branden Gracel scored a power-play tally at 19:05 to put the visiting Minutemen up, 2-0, before a crowd of 7,772 fans.

Jeke's goal, his first career goal and point, helped cut the deficit in half at 18:44 of the second frame.

Whitney's equalizer - at 4:08 of the final frame - was created on an exceptional pass from behind the net by sophomore Johnny Gaudreau.

Massachusetts went on to score the final three goals of the game, all at even strength.

Michael Pereira scored at 13:03, K.J. Tiefenwerth scored at 14:11 and Gracel's second goal of the night capped the scoring at the 16:26 mark.

Massachusetts goaltender Steve Mastalerz made 21 saves in the victory and improves to 1-3-0 on the season.

Senior Parker Milner made 21 saves in defeat and drops to 13-5-2 this season.
