MAINE BLACK BEARS AND VERMONT CATAMOUNTS SKATE TO 2-2 TIE

Senior forward Joey Diamond scored the game-tying goal for the Black Bears

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with Vermont on Saturday night at Alfond Arena. Joey Diamond (Long Beach, N.Y.) scored the game-tying goal early in the third period as the two teams skated to the draw.

Vermont opened the scoring at 4:02 of the second period when Matt White scored on the rebound of a Nick Luukko shot. Brett Bruneteau also assisted on the play. It was the second goal of the season for White.

Maine tied the game at 8:34 of the second when Ben Hutton (Prescott, Ontario) scored his second goal of the season on a shot from just inside the face-off circle. Both Mark Anthoine (Lewiston, Maine), who fed Hutton the pass, and Adam Shemansky (Robbinsville, N.J.) assisted on the goal.

Tobias Nilsson-Roos scored on the rebound of a Jacob Fallon shot with just four second remaining in the second period to give Vermont a 2-1 lead after two periods of play.

Diamond notched a goal on the rebound of his own shot at 1:11 of the third period and that is how the game would end. Devin Shore (Ajax, Ontario) and Steven Swavely (Reading, Pa.) each assisted on the goal for Maine. For Diamond, it was his sixth straight game with a goal against the Catamounts. It was his third goal of the season, tying him with Connor Leen (Chester, N.Y.) for the team-lead.

Maine finished the game 1-for-7 on the power play, while Vermont was scoreless in four chances.

Maine goalie Martin Ouellette (St.-Hippolyte, Quebec) made 19 saves in the game and moves to 1-4-2. Brody Hoffman stopped 36 shots for the Catamounts and moves to 3-7-3.

Maine moves to 2-10-2 on the season and 1-6-2 in Hockey East play. Vermont is 3-7-3 overall and 3-5-3 in conference play.

Maine returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 8 when it travels to Boston University for an 8 PM game. The game will be televised nationally on CBSSN. Vermont next faces Dartmouth on Wednesday, Dec. 5.
