Sophomore forward Devin Shore had a goal and three assists for the Black Bears

ORONO, Maine - Devin Shore (Ajax, Ontario) had a hand in all four goals as the University of Maine men's ice hockey team defeated rival UNH 4-2 on Saturday night at a sold-out Alfond Arena. The Black Bears scored three third period goals in the victory. Maine improves to 12-9-3 on the season and 6-4-2 in Hockey East play. UNH falls to 14-13-1 overall, 6-6-0 in conference action.

Brett Pesce gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 4:16 of the first period. He received a pass from Kevin Goumas and beat Maine goalie Martin Ouellette (St.-Hippolyte, Quebec) with a shot from the slot to give the Wildcats the 1-0 lead. Eric Knodel also assisted on the goal for UNH.

Shore evened the score just over two minutes later when he followed up on his initial shot and beat Casey DeSmith for his 12th goal of the season. Ryan Lomberg (Richmond Hill, Ontario) and Ben Hutton (Prescott, Ontario) both assisted on the goal for the Black Bears.

UNH regained the lead at 14:14 of the second period when Nick Sorkin notched his 15th goal of the season from Goumas and Justin Agosta. The Wildcats took the 2-1 lead into the third period.

Maine tied the game at 2:29 of the third period when Lomberg chipped the puck up along the wall to Shore. He found Eric Schurhamer (St. Paul, Minn.) in the left face-off circle and he blasted a shot past DeSmith to knot the score at 2-2.

Maine continued to add pressure in the third period. Shore again had a shot that DeSmith stopped, but be was able to regain control of the rebound. He found Lomberg, stationed to DeSmith's left, and he one-timed the puck into the back of the net to give the Black Bears the 3-2 lead. For Lomberg, it was his eighth goal of the season.

Maine iced the game at 19:14 when Shore gained control of the puck in the neutral zone. UNH had pulled DeSmith in favor or an extra attacker and Shore found New Hampshire native Brian Morgan (Windham, N.H.) with the puck. Morgan took a few strides with the puck before firing it into the empty net to give the Black Bears the 4-2 victory. It was the fifth goal of the season for Morgan.

Maine finished the game with a 37-25 edge in shots on goal. The Black Bears were scoreless in four power play chances, while UNH converted on one of its three opportunities.

Ouellette made 23 saves in net and improves to 11-9-3 on the season. DeSmith made 33 saves for New Hampshire and falls to 12-11-0.

Maine has next weekend off, before traveling to Hockey East newcomer Notre Dame on Feb. 7 and 8.
