BOSTON, Mass. - The No. 6 Boston University men's ice hockey team overcame an early Wisconsin goal to earn to a 4-1 victory over the Badgers in its home opener on Saturday evening at Agganis Arena. The Terriers are now 1-1-0 on the young season.

It was a five-banner night at Agganis, as the Terriers had a pregame ceremony to honor the accomplishments (Beanpot, Hockey East regular season & tournament titles, Hobey Baker, Frozen Four) of last year's impressive squad.

BU found itself down quickly, however, as the Badgers scored on their third shot of the contest. The Terriers didn't let their break their spirits, as they peppered the Wisconsin goal throughout the night en route to a commanding 44-18 shot advantage.

Sophomore Brandon Fortunato scored the game-winning goal on the power play and added an assist. Classmate Connor LaCouvee made 17 saves to pick up the win in goal.

Freshman Ryan Cloonan notched a pair of assists as 10 Terriers earned at least one point on the night.

Wisconsin (0-2-2) got their early goal from the stick of Adam Rockwood, but senior Matt Lane tied the contest early in the middle period with his second goal in as many games.

Fortunato gave BU the lead at 9:04 of the second before the Terriers put away with visitors with third-period tallies from sophomore Chase Phelps and freshman Bobo Carpenter. Carpenter's marker was his first collegiate goal.

BU went 1-for-7 on the power play while killing off all three of the Badgers' man-up opportunities. Matt Jurusik turned in a strong 40-save effort for the visitors.

Lane backhanded a rebound past Jurusik from the foot of the right circle to draw the Terriers even. Junior Doyle Somerby and Cloonan, who now share the team lead in points this season with three each, assisted on the play.

Fortunato's go-ahead tally on the power play came on a wrister from the right circle following a pass from behind the net by junior Danny O'Regan. Freshman Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson also assisted on the play to pick up his first collegiate point. Fortunato's lone goal from his freshman season took place in a 3-3 tie at Wisconsin.

BU played a sound third period and was able to build on its lead. From the right slot, Phelps redirected a near-side attempt by Fortunato at 10:59 of the third. With 5:03 left in regulation, a rebound from a shot by junior Mike Moran fell right to Carpenter's stick and the freshman buried the puck to create a 4-1 final.

The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 24, when they play host to Connecticut in the Hockey East opener for both teams. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
