PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Strong goaltending from junior Nick Ellis and two points each from Mark Jankowski and Jake Walman paced the #2 Providence College men's hockey team to a 4-1 win over Holy Cross in front of a sellout crowd at Schneider Arena on Friday (Oct. 16).

Capping off the brilliant 2014-15 season in grand fashion, Friar alumni of the past passed the championship banner along the ice prior to its raising into the rafters at Schneider Arena during a stirring pre-game ceremony.

Providence improved to 2-0-1 this season, while the Crusaders dropped their third in a row to fall to 0-3-0.

Ellis (Millersville, Md.) surrendered just one goal while making 31 stops for the Friars. Paul Berrafato turned away 16 shots in relief of starter Tommy Nixon, who took the loss to drop to 0-2-0.

Nick Saracino (St. Louis, Mo.) notched his first goal of the season 17:30 into the first period to put the Friars up 1-0. Anthony Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) collected the puck behind the Friar net and hit Tom Parisi on the half wall. Parisi chipped the puck off the boards and out to a breaking Saracino, who skated into the Crusader zone and found the top-right corner over Nixon's shoulder.

After the opening faceoff in the second period, Brandon Tanev (Toronto, Ontario) collected the puck right off the draw and drove the net, sending a one-handed shot on goal that found the five-hole to put the Friars up 2-0 just eight seconds into the period.

Providence tacked on another insurance marker just 4:10 later when Mark Jankowski (Dundas, Ontario) skated to the tops of the circles and fired a shot past Nixon on the far side, just above his pad.

After Holy Cross' Mike Barrett got one back for the visitors, Ellis stood tall, combining for 25 saves over the final two periods, included some point-blank chances in the third with the Crusaders pushing.

Walman (Toronto, Ontario) struck for his second goal in as many games as he hammered a shot from the right point through a screen past Berrafato with 12:22 to play.
