DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey team recorded a 6-2 shot advantage but was defeated 6-2 by Northeastern University in Saturday night's Hockey East matchup at the Whittemore Center.

UNH is now 8-10-4 overall and 2-4-4 in Hockey East while Northeastern completed the home-and-home weekend series sweep of the Wildcats to improve to 8-12-4, 2-8-3. Following a scoreless first period, the Huskies outscored UNH 5-2 in the second period despite being outshot 16-8.

Dan Correale (Prince George, British Columbia) and Marcus Vela (Burnaby, British Columbia) scored UNH's goals. Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.) stopped 14 of 20 shots and exited the game with New Hampshire trailing 6-2 at 12:52 of the third period. Jamie Regan (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) stopped the only shot he faced the last 7:08 of regulation.

Sam Kurker led NU's offense with two goals and two assists. Adam Gaudette and Lincoln Griffin both recorded a goal and an assist while Brendan Collier finished with two assists. Dylan Sikuraand Mike Jamieson netted the other goals and five other Huskies tallied an assist.

Kurker potted the game's first goal at 2:32 of the second stanza when he lifted a shot from close range on the right side under the crossbar. Collier, with the pas to Kurker from the slot, and Griffin set up the tally.

Then there was a flurry of six goals in six minutes. New Hampshire leveled the score, 1-1, on Correale's wraparound goal at the right post. Andrew Poturalski (Williamsville, N.Y.), with the pass from the high slot to Correale on the left wing, and Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) were credited with assists.

NU potted goals 29 seconds apart as part of three consecutive goals to gain control of the game. Gaudette's power-play goal on a one-timer from the slot gave the Huskies a 2-1 lead at 13:18. Griffin, alone in front, struck at 13:47 to give the visitors a 3-1 advantage.

The Huskies netted a shorthanded goal at 16:26 to extend the margin to 4-1. Garret Cockerill cleared the puck from the low slot into the neutral zone. Kurker raced through the netural zone to set up a breakaway down the slot and he beat Tirone from close range.

UNH responded 14 seconds later with a power-play goal to trim the deficit to two goals. Matias Cleland (Longmont, Colo.) initiated the scoring sequence with a pass from the high slot to Michael McNicholas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), whose quick centering pass was one-timed into the net by Vela.

Northeastern responded with yet another goal 66 seconds later to build a 5-2 lead at 17:46. Gaudette moved the puck from the left half-board to Mike McMurtry in the left circle. McMurtry slipped a pass across the slot to Sikura, who lifted a shot into the cage.

NU scored the only goal of the third period at 9:04 when Mike Jamieson, positioned in the slot, tipped in Colton Saucerman's slap shot from the high slot. Kurker, with a pass from the left circle back to Saucerman, also earned an assist.
