TRENTON, N.J. - Massachusetts hockey saw its unbeaten streak come to an end at five straight as the Minutemen dropped the championship game of the Capital City Classic to #13/15 Yale, 6-1, on Saturday night at the Sun National Bank Center. The loss leaves UMass at 4-1-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs move to 2-0-0 on the year.

Senior Shane Walsh provided the Minutemen's lone tally of the night, his sixth of the season to extend his point-scoring streak to six straight games. Juniors Ray Pigozzi and Steven Iacobellis provided the assists, keeping their six-game point streaks alive, as well.

Yale took a 1-0 lead on the first power-play opportunity of the night for either side, 4:51 into the contest. Mike Doherty cleaned up a rebound at the right post after an initial shot by Charlie Curti.

The Bulldogs then expanded their advantage to 2-0 at the 9:08 mark with John Hayden putting the puck home on the odd-man rush.

In the second period, Yale added its third of the night at the 6:06 mark. Ryan Hitchock buried a rebound from the slot to chase UMass netminder Henry Dill from the game. Joe Snively stuffed home the puck amidst a scramble at the left post 14:43 into the stanza to bting the score to 4-0.

The Bulldogs went on to tack on two more in the third period, both coming on the power play, by Ryan Obuchowski and Joe Snively at 11:43 and 13:08, respectively.

Walsh then spoiled the shutout bid for Yale at the 14:55 mark, wristing home a cross-ice feed from Pigozzi and Iacobellis.

The Bulldogs ended the contest with a 31-26 shot advantage and went 3-for-4 on the power play, while UMass was 0-for-2 with the man advantage. Alex Lyon totaled 25 saves in net for Yale and Dill (10) and freshman Nic Renyard (15) for 25 stops for the Minutemen.

The Minutemen will be back in action with a Hockey East game at #4 Boston College on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
