ORONO, Me. - The Black Bears took care of home ice this weekend in their last contests of the 2016 calendar year as they swept the Yellow Jackets from AIC.

Junior Defenseman Mark Hamilton opened the scoring 4:34 into the contest on assists from Brendan Robbins and Chase Pearson. AIC then rallied for two straight goals as Shawn McBride was able to sneak a puck passed McGovern's pad on assists from Blake Christensen and Martin Mellberg. Then Hugo Reinhardt was able to capitalize on the powerplay on a feed from Andrew Debrincat and Blake Christensen. McGovern was then perfect from that point on making 22 saves on 24 shots on goal. Chase Pearson was able to continue his scoring magic as he scored with just 0.8 seconds left in the first frame on an assist from Mark Hamilton. Maine headed into the locker room knotted at 2.

The second period was all Black Bears as Chase Pearson knotted his second of the game at the 10:04. Assisting on the goal was Nolan Vesey and Patrick Shea. Senior Blaine Byron then found the back of the net just over two minutes later on assists from Ryan Smith and Cam Brown and extended the lead to 4-2.

The third period saw the Black Bears hot powerplay stay hot as Rob Michel and Cam Brown were able to connect with Blaine Byron, netting his second of the night and extending the lead to 5-2. At the 7:55 mark of the period, Maine saw another powerplay and Nolan Vesey made short work of it, scoring his fourth of the season on assists from Cam Brown and Rob Michel. 11:45 into the frame, the Black Bears capitalized on their 7th of the evening, as Patrick Shea was on the spot, scoring on a Dane Gibson rebound opportunity. Mark Hamilton added a secondary assist.

The Black Bears end the 2016 calendar year at 7-9-3 and look to continue momentum after the holiday break as they take on New Hampshire in a non-conference tilt in Manchester on December 30th.
