WHAT HAPPENED
The Big Green got on the board first at 12:52 of the opening period as John Ernsting fired a screened shot from just outside the faceoff circle to the left of UNH netminder Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.). The play was set up by Jamie McLaughlin who found Grant Opperman. At the 16 second mark of the second period, Daniel Warpecha gave Dartmouth a 2-0 lead. Kevin Kilistoff initated the play for the secondary assist while Charley Michalowski got the primary assist.
With 3:12 remaining in the second period, Troy Crema gave Dartmouth a 3-0 advantage as they would bring that lead into the third period. Josh Hartley and Carl Hesler each tallied assists on the play. At 1:36 of the third period as a 5-on-3 power play expired for Dartmouth, Opperman fired a slap shot that found the back of the net through traffic. Shane Sellar and Connor Yau got assists.
The Wildcats nearly got on the board twice in the second period as two shots hit the post and bounced away. Sophomore defenseman Matt Dawson (Delta, British Columbia) fired one from the top of the point that hit the right post while another shot hit the left post just minutes later.
Junior forward Jason Salvaggio got the 'Cats on the board at 3:23 of the third period with his ninth goal of the season to make the score 4-1. Junior blueliner Dylan Chanter (Armstrong, British Columbia) defended a Dartmouth attack coming into the UNH zone and deflected the puck into the neutral zone to senior Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.). Kelleher skated up the ice into the DC zone with the puck and dished it to junior linemate Jason Salvaggio (Hanson, Mass.). He dragged the puck around a Dartmouth defenseman and ripped a shot past Big Green goalie Devin Buffalo.
With 1:47 remaining in the third period and Tirone pulled for an extra attacker, Clay Han scored an empty netter to give Dartmouth a 5-1 lead. Will Graber recorded the assist on the play.
