NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Dylan Malmquist scored in the first period and Cal Petersen held one of the nation's most prolific offenses off the board to lead Notre Dame to a 3-0 win over New Hampshire on Saturday night at the Compton Family Ice Arena (4,652).

Petersen made 31 saves to earn his NCAA-leading fifth shutout of the season and the tenth of his career.

Andrew Peeke and Jake Evans added third period insurance goals for the Irish (14-8-3, 7-4-2 HEA), while Andrew Oglevie recorded a pair of assists.

New Hampshire (11-9-4, 6-3-3 HEA) goaltender Danny Tirone finished with 40 saves on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Notre Dame took a 1-0 lead at 14:16 of the first period when Malmquist picked up a rebound in front off of an Anders Bjork shot and wristed home his sixth goal of the season.

After a scoreless second period, Peeke notched an insurance tally at 3:54 of the third period with a shot from the top of the circle after collecting a pass from Evans, who was situated on the goal line to Tirone's left.

Evans then pushed the lead to 3-0 at 7:52 of the third when he beat Tirone high with a shot from the slot for his eighth goal of the season. Evans has now notched at least one point in 10 of Notre Dame's last 11 games.

Joe Wegwerth also drew a penalty shot in the third period after he was slashed on a breakaway, but Tirone made a right pad save on the ensuing penalty shot attempt by the sophomore winger.

The Irish were boosted by going three-for-three on the penalty kill, blanking a New Hampshire power play which came into the night ranked seventh in the nation.

COACH JACKSON'S THOUGHTS

On the game in general ...

"It was a tough game. They're hard to score on. Everybody talks about how good they are offensively, but their goaltender had a good weekend and made it very challenging for us to score on and they play good on their own end. Defensively they're tough because they create turnovers, but tonight I thought we did a better job of not turning those pucks over as much as we did last night. A couple timely goals in the third period certainly took the pressure off."

On tonight's possession game ...

"We've got to learn to be as good without the puck as we are with it. When we're good with the puck we're pretty fast. When I say without the puck, I mean offensively too. I thought our puck support was better and I thought we did a better job of coming out of our zone from last night so it was a good weekend for us. We had a good set of shots last night and close to that tonight."

On New Hampshire's defense...

"I think it's the nature in which they played they kind of play a bend and don't break system on their own end. They give you a lot of outside shots and that kid he makes a lot of good saves. He challenges. He's not a real big guy but he's really aggressive and comes out on you and it's hard for guys to get accustomed to that."

On Notre Dame's fourth line...

"They gave us some good minutes. I thought Mike O'Leary, Bo Brauer, (Joe Wegwerth). They are three big bodies. They were playing against a line that was smaller and fast so it was good to keep the puck in the offensive line instead of having to chase those guys. I was pleased with them I thought all three of those guys played well together tonight. It has also been good to have Felix (Holmberg) back in the lineup."

On the scoring depth...

"Getting scoring depth is important because you're going to have nights like tonight and people are really focusing on Anders right now ... We need to make sure guys like Malmquist and Ogelvie last night and guys that are on the second third fourth lines are productive for us by combination or individuals."
