OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University got three first period goals and 19 saves from sophomore goaltender Ryan Larkin to post a 3-0 shutout win over the UConn Huskies at Steve 'Coach' Cady Arena Friday night. The Huskies fall to 2-4-1 on the season with the loss, Miami moves to 2-3-0.

Miami senior defenseman Scott Dornbrock finished with a goal and an assist on the night. Sophomore Carson Meyer scored what proved to be the game-winner, just 3:52 into the game. Classmate Gordie Green capped the scoring at 9:07 in the first.

The Huskies and RedHawks were both 0-for-4 on the power play on the night. Miami fired 33 shots on net and stifled the UConn offense, holding the Huskies to a season-low 19 shots. Sophomore Adam Huska (Zvolen, Slovakia) stopped 28 shots before giving way to senior Tanner Creel (Arlington Heights, Ill.) late in the third period.

1st:

UConn's first period woes continue on Friday night, falling behind Miami 3-0 before the game was 10 minutes old. The RedHawks struck for their first at 3:52 with Meyer notching his first on the season, deflecting a Dornbrock shot just under the bar for a 1-0 lead.

Dornbrock made it 2-0 at 5:28, burying a one-timer from the left circle off a feed from Casey Gilling, his first on the season. Green gave Miami a 3-0 lead at 9:07 with his third on the season, snapping a shot past Huska in the slot.

2nd:

The Huskies kept Miami at bay in the second but couldn't chip away at the 3-0 deficit. The RedHawks added to their shot advantage, outshooting UConn 9-7 in the second. Both teams failed to score on their one power play chance in the period.

3rd:

Miami's defensive stranglehold on the UConn offense continued into the third period as the RedHawks allowed just four shots on goal over the final 20 minutes. Miami killed off another UConn power play in the third but came up empty on three chances of their own.

Notes:

Friday night's match-up marked the first-ever meeting between the Huskies and RedHawks. They will wrap-up their series tomorrow night with a 7 pm puck drop.

UConn fell behind 3-0 for the fourth time in the last five games and have finished 1-3-0 in those contests. The Huskies continued to struggle in the first period and have now been outscored 13-3 in the first 20 minutes of action in seven games this season.

The Huskies were shutout for the first time this season and the first time since a 3-0 loss at Northeastern on Feb. 17, 2017, a stretch of 11 games. This was their first shutout loss on the road since falling 4-0 to Maine at last year's Frozen Fenway (Jan. 14, 2017), a stretch of 14 road games.
