HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn men's hockey team picked-up the game-tying goal late in the third period as senior Jesse Schwartz (Toronto, Ontario) scored his third on the weekend to help the Huskies to a 1-1 tie with No. 17 nationally ranked Ohio State Saturday afternoon at the XL Center.

The Huskies moved to 3-8-2 overall while Ohio State is now 6-3-3 on the year.

After two scoreless periods, the Buckeyes struck first with sophomore Tanner Laczynski notching his fourth on the season at 9:23. Schwartz provided the game-tying score at 16:41, scoring off a feed from freshman defenseman Adam Karashik (Ridgefield, Conn.).

Both goaltenders were solid on Saturday with OSU's Sean Romeo posting 29 saves to UConn sophomore Adam Huska's (Zvolen, Slovakia) 24 stops.

The Huskies held a 30-25 edge on shots and were 0-for-5 on the power play. UConn killed off all four of Ohio State's power play chances.

1st:

Both teams struggled to generate offense in the first period while also both finishing 0-for-2 on the power play. Ohio State had a slim 6-5 shot edge.

2nd:

The Huskies and Buckeyes turned up their offense in the second period but both goaltenders continued to keep the game scoreless. OSU got off 12 shots to UConn's 11 in the period. The Huskies killed off two more OSU power plays in the second.

The Buckeyes look as if they broke the scoreless tie at 15:35 when Tanner Laczynski buried a feed from Matthew Weis, but the goal was disallowed after a review. OSU was called for goaltender interference on the play.

3rd:

Ohio State cracked the scoreless tie at 9:23 as Laczynski scored his fourth on the season. Defenseman Janik Moser kick-started the play, feeding Laczynski into the netural zone with a pass from deep in the OSU zone. Laczynski carried into the left circle and snapped a shot past Huska, glove side.

The Huskies found the tying goal at 16:41 with Schwartz scoring his third on the weekend. Junior Karl El-Mir (Montreal, Quebec) fed Karashik up the left wing into the zone. Karashik settled the puck and slid a centering pass to Schwartz who buried it on an open net near the right post to tie it up.

OT:

The Huskies carried the action in the extra session, firing six shots on net over the five-minute span. UConn nearly ended it in the opening seconds as Max Kalter (Highland Park, Ill.) got loose toward the net but was denied by Romeo.

Notes:

UConn is 0-2-2 all-time against Ohio State and is now 2-6-3 against teams from the Big Ten Conference.

Schwartz's goal gives the senior three on the season, matching his season-high total during his sophomore campaign in 2015-16. Both Karashik and El-Mir recorded assists in both games this weekend.
