ORONO, Maine-- The Black Bears earned a gutsy 2-1 victory over the Boston College Eagles on Friday night.
First Goal: Skating on a 4-on-4 midway through the first period, Mitch Fossier was buzzing down by the faceoff circles. Fossier handled a takeaway deflected over from the boards by Chase Pearson, taking the open lane through the faceoff circle and beating Woll over his blocker.
Second Goal: Midway through the second, the Black Bears doubled their lead with pressure down low. Pearson took away the puck behind the net, feeding it up along the boards to Keith Muehlbauer. His shot buckled through traffic, stopping in the high slot, where Eduards Tralmaks swooped in and fired a quick shot to beat the outstretched pad.
Third Goal: Boston College scored its only goal of the night on a 6-on-4 after pulling Woll on a power play. Aapeli Rasanen fired in a quick shot at the top of the slot after handling a pass from Logan Hutsko from behind the net to put BC on the board with 1:33 left in the game.
Notes:
-The Black Bears penalty kill was strong, going 3-for-4 on the night, with the defense blocking 11 shots in front of him.
-Jeremy Swayman turned aside 32 shots on goal in the contest.
-Maine is now 13-14-4 overall and 9-8-4 in Hockey East.
