ORONO, Maine-- The Black Bears took a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over the Boston College Eagles on Saturday night at the Alfond.
Mitch Fossier's seventh goal in February lead the Black Bears to a key victory in Hockey East play, while Jeremy Swayman turned aside 33 shots en route to his 14th victory of the season.
First Goal: Boston College opened up the scoring on the power play. Oliver Wahlstrom took a pass at the nearside half boards from the point by Ben Finklestein and cut across the slot to fire from the farside faceoff circle. David Cotton took a deflection in front for his 18th of the season.
Second Goal: Brendan Robbins tied the game with 47 left to go in the second period. Brady Keeper kickstarted the play with a nifty backhand pass across the point over to Jakub Sirota. Sirota fired a hard shot that was tipped by the screening Robbins to tie it.
Third Goal: Eduards Tralmaks took a puck from the corner and chipped it up the boards in the last minute of the overtime. Chase Pearson corralled the puck for a short pass over to Fossier, who pinpointed a backhanded shot five hole.
Notes:
-The Black Bears defense blocked 15 shots in front of Swayman in the contest.
-With the victory, Maine sweeps the season series against BC.
-The Black Bears are now 4-0-1 in their last five, with wins against Providence, Merrimack and Boston College.
-Maine is now 14-14-4 overall and 10-8-4 in Hockey East, good for 22 points and sixth place in the Hockey East standings. The Black Bears are two points behind No. 5 Boston University, with 24 points.
