BOSTON - Junior defensemen Dante Fabbro (1g, 4a) and Chad Krys (2g, 3a) each turned in career-high five-point nights to help the Boston University men's ice hockey team close out the home portion of its regular season with a 5-1 triumph over visiting Merrimack on Saturday evening at Agganis Arena.

The Terriers put on a special-teams showcase, scoring three power-play goals, their nation-leading 10th shorthanded tally of the year and a 4-on-4 goal to push their unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1) and improve to 14-15-4 on the year with a 12-8-3 Hockey East.

Freshman Joel Farabee and sophomore Ty Amonte were the other two goal scorers for the Terriers, who remain in fifth place in the league standings with one game to play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Despite being outshot 17-7 in the opening period, the Terriers took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

- BU drew an early penalty and took full advantage of it as a pass attempt by Fabbro from the right circle glazed off a Merrimack defender and into the net just 4:07 into the contest.

- With BU's penalty kill on the ice, Amonte was sprung on a shorthanded breakaway by a long pass from Fabbro and deked Merrimack netminder Craig Pantano before depositing the puck by the right post at 11:23 of the first.

- Krys scored both of this goals in the middle period and the Warriors got on the board in between them to make it a 4-1 affair after two.

- With BU on a power play, Fabbro set up Krys for a one-timer at the top of the right circle that found the back of the net at 3:20 of the second.

- Tyler Drevitch scored Merrimack's lone goal with 12:26 remaining in the second.

- Krys was successful once again from the right side later in the period when he flicked a wrister that went off Pantano and in at 9:35.

- Farabee capped the scoring on a highlight-reel power-play tally at 3:53 of the third as the freshman went end-to-end and weaved through the Merrimack defense before executing a backhand toe drag and pushing the puck through the legs of Merrimack goaltender Drew Vogler.

GAME NOTES

- Junior Jake Oettinger turned in yet another strong performance in net, stopping 32 of the 33 shots he faced before yielding to redshirt junior Max Prawdzik, who made saves on all four shots he saw.

- Pantano (9) and Volger (17) combined for 26 saves for the Warriors.

- BU went 3-for-5 on the power play and successfully killed off all eight of Merrimack's power-play chances.

- Sophomore Cam Crotty had a game-high four blocked shots.

- If BU wins its final game, it will need a Northeastern loss or a UMass Lowell loss or tie to finish in the top four of the Hockey East standings and earn home ice for the quarterfinals.

- BU can finish anywhere between third and fifth in the final Hockey East standings.

UP NEXT

- BU will close out the regular season on Saturday, March 9, at Maine.

- Game time at Alfond Arena is set for 7:30 p.m.
