Senior goaltender Rob McGovern made 30 saves for the Black Bears

ORONO, Maine-The Black Bears earned a commanding 6-0 victory over the Boston University Terriers on Friday at Alfond Arena.

First Goal: Brendan Robbins opened the scoring on senior night at 1:44 of the first period. Robbins handled a homerun pass from Brady Keeper with a burst of speed up the wing before he cut in and fired a shot in over the glove shoulder of Jake Oettinger for a lead the Black Bears wouldn't relinquish.

Second Goal: Midway through the first, Mitch Fossier made a hit on BU's Dante Fabbro near the point to strip him of the puck, where it was picked up and carried through the slot by Pearson who finished with a nifty backhander.

Third Goal: Robbins scored his second of the night on a break with Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup into the zone. Schmidt-Svejstrup handled the puck coming into the zone against defensive pressure shifts a backhanded pass across the slot to Robbins who fired it home.

Fourth Goal: At 8:38 of the second, Tim Doherty because the game's third goal scorer. Doherty handled a feed from Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup in the neutral zone along the boards, where Doherty went down through both defensemen, firing in a wrist shot blocker side.

Fifth Goal: Brady Keeper drove into the zone cutting through to create room against three defensemen, driving in deep and forcing new goaltender Vinnie Purpura to come out and challenge the shot. Pupura misread the shot, out of position on the far post where Keeper recollected behind the net. After a quick give and go around the side of the net with Fossier, Keeper finished the play with a clean backhand in.

Sixth Goal: The last goal of the night came late in the third, as Fossier redirected a shot from Brady Keeper at the point on a rising shot from the point with Fossier tied up in the slot.


Notes

- This is Rob McGovern's first start of the season on senior night, and his first win this season.

- McGovern's last shutout was against UConn at Frozen Fenway on Jan. 14, 2017.

- Maine's PK went 4-for-4 tonight, with the defense blocking eight shots.

- The Black Bears recognized seven seniors for their contributions tonight, honoring: Brendan Robbins, Daniel Perez, Canon Pieper, Sam Becker, assistant captain Keith Muehlbauer and captain Rob Michel.
