BURLINGTON, Vt. - Boston University's Chad Krys scored an empty net goal with 16 seconds left in overtime to secure a 1-0 win over Vermont on USA Hockey Night, presented by Handy Toyota, at Gutterson Fieldhouse Friday night.

The Terriers improve to 12-15-3 overall and 10-8-2 in Hockey East play. Vermont falls to 12-17-2 and 5-14-2 in conference play.

COACH'S QUOTE

"Really disappointed for our guys more than anything because they put such great effort into tonight's game," head coach Kevin Sneddon said. "They were awesome all week in practice, so excited to play all week and they gave it everything they had. We knew going into overtime we had to play to win. A tie wasn't going to do anything for us."

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Stefanos Lekkas made 13 saves and Jake Oettinger made seven stops on the other end of the ice in a scoreless first period.

- After a penalty-free first period, Vermont was penalized three times and Boston University once in the second. UVM killed all three Terrier chances while allowing just five shots to reach Lekkas.

- Vermont's best scoring chance of the second came halfway through the period on BU's second man-advantage. Junior defenseman Jake Massie jumped on a rush with junior captain Matt Alvaro and deflected a centering pass from Alvaro just wide of Oettinger.

- Lekkas made perhaps the save of the season at 13:05 of the final period on a shot from Joel Farabee. Lekkas dove to his right on a centering pass and made a spectacular save on the Terrier freshman to keep the game scoreless. A review at the next stoppage confirmed the call on the ice.

- UVM and BU ended regulation at a scoreless tie. Lekkas made 40 saves in regulation and Oettinger finished regulation with 26 saves.

- Vermont pulled Lekkas in the final minute of overtime in an effort to grab the win and two conference points, but a Krys' empty net goal with 16 seconds left secured a 1-0 Terrier win.

GAME NOTES

- Lekkas finished the game with 43 saves and zero goals allowed, but was handed the loss. It marked the 11th time in his career he has finished the game with 40 or more saves. A Vermont goalie has recorded 40 or more saves just 31 times since 2000.
