TROY, N.Y. - The UMass Lowell Hockey team earned a 5-2 road victory at Rensselaer on Sunday afternoon at Houston Field House in the non-conference series finale.

UMass Lowell ups its record to 7-6-1 overall with victory, while the Engineers fall to 4-7-0 overall.

"We are definitely pleased with two points on the road, I thought it was a good clean hockey game," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "We like to get off to a good start and I thought we did that in the first period and the second period was key for us to be able to strap together three or four good shifts in a row is what we have been striving to do here."

Senior co-captain Connor Wilson (Calgary, Alta.) gave UMass Lowell a 3-2 lead on a one-timer off a cross slot pass from Mattias Goransson (Slottsbron, Sweden) with a little over a minute to play in the middle frame. Junior forward Ryan Lohin (Chadds Ford, Pa.) extended the River Hawks lead to 4-2 with 12:31 on another feed from Goransson at the left point. Goransson (2a) and Lohin (1g,1a) each managed two points in the game, while Lohin added a career and game-high 11 shots on goal. Sophomore forward Chris Schutz (Keller, Texas) added a goal late in the third to seal the road win for the River Hawks.

Todd Burgess gave Rensselaer a 2-1 lead on his second tally of the year with 13 minutes to go in the second period with a one-timer on the power play that beat Tyler Wall blocker side. Junior forward Colin O'Neill forced a turnover and then popped it in to tie the game at 2-2 for the River Hawks with 9:45 to go in the middle stanza for his second goal of the year.

Freshman defenseman Jon McDonald (Livonia, Mich.) was credited with his second career goal with 13 minutes left in the opening frame, as a RPI player put the puck in his own net after goalie Owen Savory left the net on a delayed penalty call. RPI's Jacob Hayhurst tied the game at 1-1 for the Engineers with a wrister that beat UMass Lowell goalie Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) high glove side with 3:26 to go in the opening stanza. The River Hawks held a 14-6 shot advantage in the opening period.

UMass Lowell outshot RPI, 35-20 for the game, including a 13-7 advantage in the final period.

Wall earned his 10th start of the season, posting 18 saves in his fifth win of the season, while Savory notched 30 stops in his second career start for the Engineers.

The River Hawks return to action on Friday, December 7th at Boston University. Game time from Agganis Arena in Boston is 7 p.m.
