ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Behind goals from Tyler Madden, John Picking and Biagio Lerario, the No. 11 Northeastern men's hockey team took down No. 14 St. Cloud State, 4-1, handing the hosting Huskies their first loss at home since the 2017-18 season.
Northeastern struck first in the clash of the Huskies. Finding the feed from Brendan van Riemsdyk and TJ Walsh, Picking tipped in a shot on the doorstep at 8:32 to give the Huskies the early 1-0 lead.
St. Cloud State retaliated with a goal of their own to even the score at 1-1 at just under five minutes into the second. Eager to retake the lead, Matt Filipe brought the puck up the ice before chipping it to Madden, who knocked in a quick shot at 9:37 to move Northeastern to 2-1 over St. Cloud State. Madden kept the intensity alive as the seconds expired in the second, hitting the top corner off the look from Walsh and Picking to send the Huskies into the second intermission with the 3-1 advantage.
After a scoreless period, senior Lerario secured the win for Northeastern by firing in an empty-net goal with just 1:25 left in the contest. In net, goalie Craig Pantano continued to be a force for Northeastern, closing out the night with 19 saves.
