The 24th Annual Hockey East Championship Tournament moves to the TD Banknorth Garden for the league semifinals on Friday, March 21 and the league title game on Saturday, March 22.
After a thrilling night of semifinal games, the Boston College Eagles will face the Vermont Catamounts in the 24th Annual Hockey East Championship game.
It will be the thrid time that the #3 and #4 seed face-off for the league title. The previous years were 1996 when #4 Providence defeated #3 Maine, 3-2, and 2000 when #4 Maine edged #3 Boston College, 2-1.
Those the only two times a #4 seed has won the tournament. The #3 seed has won the Hockey East title on three separate occassions (1985, 1991 and 1999).
The championship game will be played at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The title game will available on NESN on tape-delay at 10:30 on Saturday night. The game will be available live on NECN and other alternate channels at various cable systems (Click here for list of alternate channels).
GENERAL TOURNAMENT NOTES:
This was the tenth time in the 24-year history of the league that the top four seeds have faced off in the Hockey East semifinals. The top four seeds also advanced the previous three seasons. This will be the first time that UNH, BU, Vermont and BC have comprised the semifinal field.

Boston College has now advanced to the title game thirteen times, winning seven titles (1987, 1990, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2005 and 2007).
This year, Boston College won the regular season series, 2-0-1.
Following the semifinals, Vermont head coach Kevin Sneddon is 3-5-0 in three Hockey East tournaments. Boston College head coach Jerry York is 32-11-1 in thirteen Hockey East tournaments. |

will meet for the ninth time in Hockey East Tournament
play and the third time in the semifinals. Boston College leads the all-time tournament series, 5-3-0, including three wins in the Hockey East title game. The teams have split their previous two semifinal meetings.

New Hampshire has advanced to the semifinals for the 14th time and seventh consecutive year. The Wildcats have advanced to the title game seven times, winning two titles (2002 and 2003).
Boston College has advanced to the semifinals for the 16th time and the fourth consecutive season. The Eagles have advanced to the title game twelve times, winning seven titles (1987, 1990, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2005 and 2007).
This year, New Hampshire won the season series 3-0.
Following the quarterfinals, New Hampshire head coach Dick Umile is now 35-20-1 in eighteen Hockey East Tournaments. Boston College head coach Jerry York is 31-11-1 in thirteen Hockey East tournaments. |
